superchargers are load dependant?

I had an argue with someone on this board, (not saying any names), he kept insisting and explaining how a supercharger (roots, centrifugal) IS load dependant, he said that if I were to stick my car in neutral and rev it up high, there will be little to NO boost.

According to what I have learned, I always thought they were RPM dependant because since it is connected to the the crankshaft of the engine, it wouldn't matter how much load there is, just how many RPMs there are.

if you are in neutral with the even with the throttle pushed down there really isint anywhere for the air to go....you aren't connected to the drivetrain with it in nutural so you aren't going to be creating alot of load so there for not alot of spark will be used not alot of fuel and so there for really not alot of boost....the arugument was for people who have auto's with stall's and roots style blower's...I was trying to explain that even though they have the type of blower that doesn't take alot of load to build boost at idle it's pointless cause there is no where for it to go....kinda like wasted air. They aren't in motion with load so there is no reason for boost. Now if you were lauching the car...brake boosting in the auto(in this instance holding down the brake while you give it some gas) you could build enough boost to leave the line very very quickly which is the point.

Superchargers isn't load dependant, but of course the throttle must be wide open if we want to see any boost in the plenum.

So, in order to make boost when the car isn't in gear, I MUST floor the throttle?

Does the message above even make sense to you? Cuz I sure don't got much clues on it.

I'm don't get the part about "nowhere for the air to go" either. It's true that you probably won't get any boost while in neutral, because most supercharger clutches are linked to your neutral positon/clutch switch. But, they are certainly not load dependent. If that were true, then you couldn't put the s/c motor on an engine brake dyno (which Chrysler has always done). Belt-driven superchargers, regardless of type, work just like every other belt-driven accesory under the hood.
