I'm trying to help a friend retrieve her security code for her '98 Honda CR-V, I need the serial # on the stereo but can't get it out of the dash. I don't want to go ripping in there and risk damaging her dash. Can someone give me a quick walk through on stereo removal? Thanks.

It's very involved but not hard. Ask the Honda dealers parts manager to print out the instructions on how to install the radio and he'll do it for free usually. You may find a web site that sells Honda parts with the instructions. LOL

if i remember correctly,
1. pull knee bolster on the drivers side, and on the passenger side. when u pull the passenger side the glove box is gonna want to fall down because those 2 black clips have to come out and those are what holds it in place.
next u have 2 screws that hold the plastic piece in the dashboard and 4 screws that hold the radio in the plastic piece. when i did mine i left out the screws hold the plastic piece in the dashboard and i havent had any problem so if she wants to do an aftermarket head unit later it might be easier to leave them out when re-installing. to re-install just reverse the procedure.

If i left out any steps somebody add them in.

Hope this helps,
Chris

easiest way is to call the service dept....and give them the vin#. they may ask for proof of ownship....if so...just ask them what they need. beats having to rip apart your dash. at least that's how it works here in dallas.
