more pcm info - please?!

I have a 99 durango 5.9L. 100,900 miles. After reading several other threads, I think that I need to replace my PCM (my D stalls, have replaced battery, & changed oil. still stalls). Thanks to you guys! Glad someone likes to share knowledge with us newbees!

My question is - where is the PCM & what is the best source for a replacement PCM? is there a source online for parts & diagrams? I'm hoping that this is a relatively simple task that I can do myself - true or false?

I dunno where it is, as I don't have one of these trucks, but yes it's very simple to change. It's just a box with a few plug ins on it, like a normal computer, the kind you used to post that message. Someone else should be along shortly with some more information for you...

Did you Reset the PCM after changing the battery? If you did not, the engine will still stall and run rough.

No, I haven't reset the pcm. How do I do it? Also - I got the codes 920 , 920 & 999 when I ran the check after the stall ( I also got noBus when it 1st started). Can't find anything on these codes, anyone out there know?

I see you are still having issue's with you truck still stalling out. Not sure if this will help or not...but my wife has a mercedes 560sl....her car kept stalling...I mean everything just shut down.and it was speratic..she would be lucky to pull over on the break down lane..but she was fortunate that it was when she was exiting or slowing down...well all I could think of was the fule or starter or something like that...it turned out to be her ABS system. She dosn't remember or not if she had even touched or tapped the brakes when it would die but I took it out and it died on me too. But again I do not remember if I had touched the brakes or not. They replaced the cuircuitry for the ABS system and vola..it has fixed the problem...

Interesting... seems electronics are ruling all of our lives! I have reset my pcm & the D is still running (60 mins or so), so here's hoping I'll not have to worry about the abs, too...

Actually...the fix didn't work, I got stranded on the highway again yesterday. I haven't found a source for a new pcm, so I took it to the Dodge dealer. Of course, they can't make it stall, so I don't know what they will decide. I'll keep you posted

Hey,

Read through the "Durango Help" post and you will learn a lot about the PCM problems. You need to tell the dealer to try the heat gun approach to see if that is your problem. It sounds like your durango will unfortunately not be covered under the EPA warranty though as it has over 85,000 miles. The part itself is like $500 I think.

I replied to the "Durango Help" post so it would appear right under this one for you. Let me know if you have any more questions as I may be able to help. Very frustrating problem but this site gave me all the answers I needed to know!

Just an update...the dealer replaced the pcm (after I told them I thought it was the pcm, they assured me it was the fuel pump and then 2 days later they called and said that it was the pcm!) So, $753 & 4 days later, the D is running fine!
