port and polish?

what exactly is port and polish?

I'm not a pro with this, but I think I know the jist of it. The intake and exhaust tracks on the head are bored out to increase the amount of air allowed in, and then they are polished to make sure there is the best possible and smoothest airflow. The same goes for the intake manifold if that is ported and polished, except I think you can bore out the whole thing, not just the intake tracks. As for the throttle body, that is bored out to a specific diameter, e.g. 64 mm, and polished, just to allow more air to enter the intake manifold. This is my understanding of it all, correct me if I am wrong and feel free to add on. Basically a P&P greatly increases airflow more than any intake can do alone.

it removes casting imperfections and like ziggy said, smooths out the surfaces. the larger the engine, the more gains you'll see from port and polishing. so lucky for preluders compared to other hondas. haha. works great too if you're boosted.

I don't mean to dig up an old thread, but are there many casting marks on the inside of the prelude intake manifold. This is something I have been thinking about doing myself for some time now. I just wonder if it will be worth it, powerwise, to remove everything.
