Hello all!
I am 35, married(this time) for 12 years, have three kidlets -a car crazy 15 yr old boy, a tire crazy 10 yr old boy and a "change my diaper and give me a bottle" crazy 6 mth old girl-We live @ 30 minutes from Beech Bend Raceway and @ 1 hour from Nashville. Also, we own 5 vehicles. Yes, FIVE.
We have:
A 1970 Chevey C10 pickup with 88k original miles. We drive it less than 200 miles a year, on average. I get people knocking on my front door 3-4 times a year asking if it is for sale since it never seems to be moved. I would sell it, but my DH wont. He wants to restore it with the 15 yr old.
A 1978 Buick Century station wagon with no motor. The motor is in the outbuilding waiting to be rebuilt. My DH and the 15 yr old plan to make a dragster out of it.
A 1987 GMC S15 Pickup. This one is currently out of commission. My Dh was driving it to work three weeks ago and apparently the oil pump went out. Of course he didnt know it and it blew the engine. Trying to decide whether its better to buy a factory rebuilt engine($1600+installation) or get a (supposed) good one from a junkyard($500+installation). If he can restore the 70 and rebuild the 78's engine, I dont see why he cant do the labor on this one himself, but, Im just a car-stupid woman.
A 1991 Pontiac Grand Am. Just got this one out of the shop this past Friday. The ignition module was going wacky. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldnt, so we had it put on the diagnostic machine. That didnt work so they had to do some other mess and while it was apart, we just had them go ahead and fix it.
And, finally, a 1996 Dodge Intrepid. This is MY car. I used to have a 1990 Bonneville, wish I had it back, I LOVED that car, but it had over 203k on it when the odometer stopped working. I was pregnant and my brother was trying to sell this car so family dynamics being what they are, I ended up with this one at the insistence of my daddy. I like this car, it just needs some work. New motor mounts, new lock switch in the drivers side door, new radio that actually works more than sometimes and can change to AM and (OMG!What a concept) back to FM. It has a funny "clunking" noise in the front on the drivers side when you apply the brakes going less than 20 mph. It also pulls to the right a touch. Nobody can figure out why it does this, so I live with it. It also has a weird hesitation sometimes when shifting gears(its an automatic). Like its a stick and you arent going quite fast enough for the higher gear you just put it in. I would drive it anywhere, wouldnt bother me, but I have never been known for my brightness, lol.
There you have it.
