Alarm Problem

I have a problem with my alarm on my 96 GTI.

The remote for turning ti off appears to work fine (in that it still has the flashing red light when I press it) however pressing it no longer deactivates the alarm. As you probably know, the key does not decativate it either. Is there any other way of deactivating the alarm?

Can you deactivate it from the passenger side?

Not sure what you mean.

Do you mean deactivating it by doing something else at the passanger side or by pushing the remote at the passanger side? Cause pushing the remote wont make any difference what side you do it at?

No, I mean when you turn the key in the passenger door lock to unlock position will the alarm deactivate or when you open the door does it go off
