Removing front brake rotors

I have a 99 2wd 6cyl rodeo & I have everything off of the front brakes, but I am trying to remove the rotors to have them turned / evaluated & am having trouble pulling them. After removing the center ring w/ 3 screws, I am left w/ a large keyway slotted , plug which I assume holds in the outer bearing. I cannot get this slotted & threaded piece to turn. Does this need to be removed to pull the rotor, or do I need to just bump the back of the rotor and it will pop off at this point?

I'm not familiar with the 4x2 front ends, but if they are similar to the 4x4's, you will need to gain access to the spindle nut & remove it to pull the front rotors. As you've seen, the front wheel bearings are housed in the rotors, which makes for PITA brake jobs :banghead: .

thanks for the reply! I did go ahead and buy the book on it. I also spoke to a local shop and was told to treat it like the 4wd. I fabricated a hub tool from a Ford one that I had from my old Bronco II. I found the directions on plantetisuzoo. It worked like a charm. Seperated everything, turned the rotors, repacked and reassembled. I used the newer ceramic pad & I would recommend them for the price.
