Incorrectly installed intake

Customer had their car towed to the shop because it was ticking real bad. Upon inspection we found some chunks of the intake missing, where could they be? Took off head/valve cover & found all kinds of damage to 2 of the 4 pistons, valves, springs . . . there were even small pieces in the cat. This could have been prevented *if* the intake was mounted correctly, the braket to prevent movement not installed allowing the intake to rub in many places. I'm sure the Ebay special didn't help, but while I was at Honda we had a Prelude with the same deal except it was an Iceman not installed right.

i dont even understand ho this could happen, it would have to be hitting other things real hard to be breaking off, i got an ebay special intake on my car, and i didnt even get that mounting piece, ive ran the car for over 3yrs like that, and thier isnt even a scratch on the intake, i think something more sinister is at work here.

Wow, I would have never thought... I'm glad my intake pipe didn't disinigrate like that the year or so I had it flipping around under my hood a couple years ago. :o But at least I was eventually smart and motivated enough to make my own bracket to hyold it firmly in place. :biggrin:

How the hell did that think get so banged up? I think it was more USER error than product error.

Every time the engine revs it moves, so it takes the unmounted intake along with it. The customer wasn't the brightest person. . . .

Like I said, mine was loose in the same manner for about a year before I anchored it down, first by ziptie'ing it to my strut tower bar... :o Then later on I made my own bracket for it to keep it securely in place. Of course I have a DX D16 motor where the throttle body is verticle rather than horizontal like is the case on most other cars, so the way mine flopped about may have been different, but when it did, the rim of the filter would always bang up on the underside of the hood. Sounded SOO ghetto when I'd go over speed bumps, LOL! But the actual piping NEVER got scratched up any from this. It's still as shiney almost as the day I got it some 3 years ago. The bracket I made is an exact fit and turned our quite nice! :cool:

So this guy couldnt solve his problem from just opening up the hood and seeing that his intake was half gone?
