My Son wrecked his 95 gt his damage as i see it is two airbags blown hood, bumper radiator pushed into engine but still driveable no leaks as yet although its been at body shop all week, drivers side fende and bent front that the raditor bracket bolts to i was told that even though this car is cherry inside and out they consider it totaled and the insurance company wants to give me only 6200.00 and keep the car problem is i owe 8100 and i want the car fixed it was bought as a graduation gift for my son, he has the 85 gt that wont start it was appraise at 10,500.00 any ideas? the state farm body shop says it will cost 5600.00 min. to fix and that puts it over the threshold, but they are using fac. parts example a hood 675.00 a bumper 425.00 i can get after market at cervinis for less but they say they are not alowed to use them anyone who has expierience with this let me know.. thanks

Hi, I also have a 1995 Mustang GT that I did a little body damage to. The best idea i can give is to take it to a frame shop and fix the frame ( I imagine that is part of it for the price), and if not just order a body kit off of ebay along with a hood and all of the cosmetic parts u need 4 it. I have bought many parts off of ebay and it saves u a ton of $ as long as you can turn a wrench. You can rebuild the car ( get a builders title from the insurance co.), and have something to drive using the $6200 that they are willing to give you. My car is also a previous salvage title due to the fan fire problem Ford had in 1995. Well I hope this helps you and your son out and good luck!

Try take the money and keep the car. (the money might be less then) but you should be able to put a body kit, aftermarket hood and get it painted for the money you get. If it is the frame I would make sure they fix it right.

Unfortunately State Farm refuses to use anything other than OEM parts. Although aftermarket or LKQ (like, kind, quality aka junkyard parts) are cheaper they don't always line up well. Insurance companies usually fix about 80% of what the vehicle is worth. Example a $10,000 car will be considered a total loss if the cost to repair is more than $8,000. If a car is considered to be a "total loss" or totalled and they will cut you a check for what the vehicles is worth. There is a thing however called appearance allowance. A body shop can lessen a bill by only fixing what is absolutely nessacary for the car to opperate safely...for example if the frame needs to be fixed there is no way around that, but MOST bodyshops will allow you to use your own parts if you were to buy aftermarket or whatever and just have the insurance pay for the damage that must be repaired. Body shops charge you usually 15-20% ontop of the price of the part. For example if they have to buy you a hood for $100...it shows up on your estimate for 115 or 120...after a few parts that adds up. Ask for appearance allowances and talk to the manager at the shop, youll be able to work somedthing out...I'm an A-tech at an auto body shop in Pa...any ?'s I can surely answer

The reason State Farm only use genuine parts is because lawyers informed their clients (about 10 years ago) that theyre car "isn't worth as much with cheaper parts on them" and they sued for genuine stuff. That was rediculous as they parts were guarenteed forever, but they sued for damages and trying to rip them off, won and now S.F. has a new policy that only genuine stuff can go on. This is to avoid rediculous lawsuits and drives the cost of your insurance up. (State Farm obviously wasn't going to pay the differences). Just thought id through my 2cents in, and I am a SF Agents son too...
