Recomended oil in front/rear axis

I need to know what kind of oil i should use in my front and rear axels on my Tahoe 4x4 -96
In my Chilton book it recomended an 80w90 LS oil but when i drained the front axel it seamed to be red ATF fluid?? :screwy:

Hope you understand my pour english :smile:---------------------------------------Some gear lube has red dye in it. Just get a good quality GM lube and you should be all set.But don't forget the posi additive in the rear if you need it..
