Adding a Blower of a Camaro 89 RS+ Questions

Hi I am new here this is my first post.

I am in the market for looking for a blower for a Camaro.

The bad news is here in mesquite no ONE and i mean no one has any ideas on where i can find myself a blower.

I am looking for not that much horse power increase i want my car to be street legal and try to keep my gas mileage 12+

Im pushing a 5.0 Stock rebuilt engine atm

What im looking for here is a root intake blower so i can have the huge monster sticking out of the hood and try to stay around 1200-2000 dollars cash wise
I don't know much about blowers so id really like to find a expert on the field so i can know what im wasting my money on

I think the blower that matches what your talking about would be Holley's 144(They designation may be different now) roots S/C for SBC. It cost around $2200, would be perfect for a mild to stock SBC.

Where can i find them and look for them?

you can look onling at any online performace shop sutch and jegs or summit racing. there are other too but those are probably the main ones. heres a link to jegs list. the holly one is there plus you should also look at the Wieand 6-71. the only thing i dont know about is it being street legal where ever you live and i also dont know about the millage.

I was thinking about Weiand 6-71 blower but it usually is more in the high 2 to $3,000 range. The 6-71 would be really wear on a stock 305.

As far as the 144 I think both Jeg's and Summit use to sell them so I would look there.

thats the weiand one. but you said you wanted the ones that stick out of the hood, and neither the weiand or the holle 144 will stick out, they are designed to sit under the hood all the way. if you want the old syle sticking out of the hood stuff witht he scoop with the three buterflys that move when you hit the throttle then you need something like a 6-71 or 8-71. and you cant just buy a blower and through it on. it sounds like you really need to find someone around you that you can talk to and have them do the work. you will need a new carb and a scoop if thats what you want. and the scoop like i was saying alone is like $230. also like GTstang was saying, the 6-71 will be alot for a stock engine. i dont think i would really ever run a bower on a stock engine, just cuz if i was going to spend the moeny it would be putting out some seriouse power.

actually, i think any roots blower that you get is gonna stick out of the hood on a camaro. the guys over at 3rdgen.org say that you will need a hood with a minimum of 4" cowl.

not true. to some extent yes. some are designed to be low profile and fit under the hood, usualy the single carb ones. mostly. in some cases its right at the hood though and you either cut the hood and nothing really sticks out its just for clearance, withch would probably look gay, or you get a cowl or something that has more clearance and will cover it all. for instance look at the link he put up for the weiand 144 or whatever it was, its way low profile, compare it to a 6-71 and you will see the difference. if you want the real blower sticking out of the hood look its like a 6-71 or something similar. big blower and carbs.

well i wont argue with ya seeing as how i dont have a blown camaro. but with the blower, carb, and air cleaner your dealing with atleast 10 inches total and probly more. i can say without looking that there is not that much clearance between the intake and the hood.

I think even the low-pro roots blowers part of the carb and air cleaner set-up will stick through a stock hood but unlike a 8-71 or something the snout and belt/pulley will stay under the hood.

yeah thats a posibility. but if its only a little bit, like half the aircleaner and up, then i think that would probably just look gay. but it would fit under a cowl probably.

Well with a third gen camaro, any roots type blower with the carb and air cleaner is going to stick out, if you remember, the stock system bairly fit. In any event I wouldn't force any air past 6psi into a stock engine. The compression is to high. If you go with a more than 6 psi then you're gonna have to lower your compression and get a dual pattern cam. From experiance, a monster blower, low compression, and blower cam are hell for day to day use. I personaly would rather walk. But that's my two cents.

Well everyone knows what kinda Camaro im rolling with iv got money to throw aroun and im really wanting to fix it up.

I Cannot find the metal shielding over the back windshield in any junkyard or website hell even on Ebay

Anyone got ideas where i can find them?
my car i don't believe came with it i am the third owner.

Also my iron z28 wheels the ones that are like stars but they are colored
im missing one of the caps that read camaro on it
where might i be able to find one of those.

I personally don't think a blower is street legal, since it will be sticking out of your hood.
