Is there anything that I can do to a 2001 Sunfire to get a little extra power out of her?

not really. Sorry.

But seriously, what engine is it? perhaps a CAI, free-flow cat, and exhaust for the time being, if you want something moderately inexpensive and fairly easy to install.

do a true cold air intake where the cone filter sits down just behind the bumper but make sure to get an aem breather, for those extra rainy days. find out what muffler shop does good work and buy a really good muffler from performance shop and have them, meaning the muffler shop, cut your resonator and run 2" pipe from your catalytic converter back, and have them weld the muffler so that it doesnt stick out like a fart can on a civic. then order some headers which you can find on www.andysautosport.com , dc sport are some of the best. after that get some thicker spark plug wires, like 8mm, and ngk iridum spark plugs for a lot better fire. all of this should run you from $350-$500, depending upon if youve got connections and hook ups. well...thats my :2cents: worth...you can pm if you want to know anything else or more about the mods ive suggested.

cool...i wish i had a stick...i hate autos, but it was either this or walk so im gonna make use of what i got...my exhaust as i have it helped go from a 11.0 in the 1/8 to a 10.7, still havent actually track tested my intake yet but hopefully will soon...but my exhaust has no cats...but it goes from 1" pipe to 2" pipe directly so it holds enough back pressure to make power. but now i cant get headers unless i have a cat installed, dont waist your money on a high flow cat-back system there isnt much difference for our cars between high flow and factory cat, as long as you upgrade your piping. but if you want some serious go, check out www.exploitedracing.com , theyve got great prices on turbo kits for all cavy/sunfire engines...but it all depends on where you want to go or what you want to do with your car. dont cut your cat though, cause in most states its illegal to cut your cat for a street driven car...

so should i get a new air intake first or a new muffler. i have limited funds for right now so i can't make all of the changes i want just yet. but you seem to have a good grasp on what i should be doing. so what is the first step i should take to get some extra power but with limited funds. like under $500.

thanks! rebuilding a couple motors will give one a pretty good grasp on things  ...hmm...performance chip...as in ecu replacement?...or one of those things that plugs into a wire on your intake? if you have $500 dollars you could do the intake and exhaust but maybe not the headers...depending upon if you can find a good muffler shop that will hook ya up...if ya lived down here in alabama id take you to the place that did mine, 2" mandrel bent galvanized aluminum pipe and the muffler welded on for only like $100 which is a steal! hehe! but my muffler was $80 as well...thats what most "rice cans" will run you, borla makes a muffler that doesnt look ricey and it sounds hella good, but some places charge an arm and a leg for it, a friend of mine found a borla muffler for only $90 though...so it can be done...
if i were actually able to put my hands on your car...i could go a looooooooooong way w/ $500...hehe...

not ecu replacement but it tricks it into thinking that whichs gives the extra boost. if i am not happy with it then i can send it back and get my money back. you know if you would juat fix my car i wouldn't be having this kind of trouble. :)
