Has anybody had to replace a fuel pump?

As I have mentioned, My car sits in my garage awaiting a fuel pump replacement. Has anyone had to replace one on a P10 G20, What did it cost you. Oh I hear it is possible that the problem I'm having could be the pressure regulator. How can I tell? My car just abruptly decellerated at about 55 miles an hour, every thing else ie radio, pwr windows were fine, just would not turn over. Makes a hesitation sound, no clicking.

usually if the fuel pump goes bad u can hear it humming really loudly whle driving..it doesn't sound like ur hearing that sort of a noise so i don't think it is the fuel pump..im not positive though

I replaced mine. Not too hard, but kind of stressful. I mean, you have your hands in gasoline with fumes coming up. :) I used latex gloves as I always do when working on my car. :D

Basically, you want to ground the car and then yourself. You have to remove the rear seat bottom to gain access. Getting the cover off was easy, but unscrewing the part that that seals it was a PITA. Might be worth looking into the special tool. Once I figured out how it came out, it was easy.

Pump cost about $160 IIRC.

Oh, and mine didn't make any noise when it went. It showed itself by cutting out some. I thought it was an electrical misfire at first.

To keep your fuel pump in good working order everyone should keep their tanks 1/4 full at all times. Car engineers didnt just put fuel pumps in gas tanks for no reason. They do this because gas is naturally nice and cool. So your pump is being cooled by the gas in your tank. Another thing about running on a low tank of gas is your going to be putting a lot more dirt into your engine.

This doesnt really have 2 do with replacing a fuel pump but it should make your fuel pumps life a little longer.

yeah mine went too. it worked on a dry run so i thought it wasnt the pump. however i made the stupid mistake of taking it to infiniti. ended up being over 600 bux. i hate those assholes

Well I just got my Bosch fuel pump #61075 shipped to me today. I bought it from partsbin.com for $113.00 plus overnight shipping. It took me eight weeks to find one this cheap and new not remanned. Dealer wanted $265.00 discounted and other car part websites wanted $200.00. I also ordered a fuel pressure regulator, egnition wires, and catalytic O2sensor to go with Random tech replacement cat #822230 $216.00 direct. I'm in a debate with myself with wether to by a new or remanned axle. part bin also carries them too remanned. I have had bad luck so far with rebuilt axles wearing out after only a year. I will also replacing both comtrol arms.

The FSM is pretty straight-forward for this.

Oh, be sure to disconnect the battery. Ground the car. Ground yourself.
