Fastest Production Mustang?

What do you guys think is the fastest production mustang? The fastest one I know of is the Saleen SR. It has a 0-60 of 4.0 and the 1320 in 11.8 at 124 mph according to www.saleen.com. The Saleen S-351 might be faster, they have the same horsepower though and I imagine the SR is lighter and more aerodynamic. I remember hearing about a boss mustang Ford made in the mid 90s that had a huge engine in it, but I think it was just a workhorse to expieriment with engine.

the boss mustang that you are refering to has a 9.8L V8 and 855 hpo and 794 lbs of tq 0-60 in 1.9 1/4 mile in 10.55 @135.05

The boss wasn't a production Mustang, but it was sick!
I believe the SR you are refering to is actually a version of the S351 so i think Saleen refered to it as the S351-SR. I agree that it's probably the fastest production Mustang ever.

It was running a 429-460 series big block ford stroked and bored out to 605 cubic inches. SVO A460 block and all the good stuff inside.

I don't think you can count the Saleen SR as a production mustang because they produced a dozen of those at best. The blown Saleen S351's at 500 horses would be the fastest "production" cars.

In the first year the mclaren f1 came out they only made 36 of them and that was considered "production" so it all depends on how you look at it. Besides that the SR was based off the S351 but modified much more.
Just search around there are a million pics of that car everywhere.

In a car museum near Gatlingburg,TN theres a 1970 Boss 429 modded by Ford from the factory; claimed to have 1200hp. Big, beautiful block sticking high out of the hood with a SC that looked like one of those weiland SCs from magazines. 8 exhaust pipes. Only 3 made; and this was the only one left. No times listed and not exactly production, but i figured i'd share. Also the place where i touched a 95 Cobra R.

also it may be nice to think of a production car as one you would buy from the dealership as opposed to one that has been modified by an aftermarket company (not that I disagree with that if I could afford it I'd be first in line) and if we look at it that way, then it'd be the new SuperCharged Cobra it's done the 1/4 mile in 12.99

Not sure, but the '69 Boss 429 might have been quicker than 12.99. Not positive though. There was also a Boss 429 "drag package" model, only made a handful of them, but they had a dual ratio rear end.. you could switch between a low gear for crusing, and a very high gear(I think it was in the low to mid 4's, like a 4.37 gear...) for the 1/4 mile blast. With optimized gearing like that, it could probably run under a 12.99. It probably weighed a bit more('69 fastbacks with an FE are around 3500lbs, with a 385series I'd say 3600lbs). I think the Boss429 was rated at 385hp, but it was obviously much more than that. I wouldn't doubt it had more than 400 to the wheels. Either way, it'd give the Cobras a run.

Too bad there wasnt a production mustang with a 427SOHC in the 60's.

Some of the '67 Shelby GT500's were snuck out with a 427 side-oiler instead of a 428 police interceptor though....

Yeah, it really was a shame. My uncle bought a SOHC and stuck it in a '67 fastback. I wish the car was still around.. could probably get north of $50,000 for it, not that I'd ever sell it.

Beautiful, aint it? I'm sure it was fast as shit too, 658hp made sure of that... That was one helluva crate motor.

and it also depends if we are thinking of fastest in an allaround aspect, (who like a car that can only do one thing?) then we would have to concider the handling and braking as well (but definately "not" mpg's) which would most definately put ether the current Cobra in front or the previous Cobra R, it put down some sweet numbers at the track
