Blinker Sound won't turn off!

Hey everyone, I drive a 2002 Grand Am. Recently, the blinker sound (you know that clicking noise) won't turn off! I'm sure its the blinker. Yet I can't figure out how to make it stop. As soon as I start the car the noise starts with it, just a high paced clicking noise.

Now I've checked and the blinker and the hazards both work normally when used. But when you turn them off, the noise remains. The noise eventually stops but will just randomly start again, sometimes just a few clicks, other times for spans of 10-20 minutes.

Some help would be greatly appreciated as its driving me insane!

Have any of you got the recall done? It to replace the hazard flasher, should cure your problem.

It sounds like the only recall on this car is what you need; its the blinker/hazard lights relay that makes that noise; it's borked in 2000-2002 year cars; free quick fix at dealership;

Mods; should make the details of the recall a sticky; this comes up often enough

Heres the info on the recall:

Except that recall is only on the 2000-2001's... despite having the SAME problem in their 2002 model, something tells me the dealer won't be fixing my car for free (at least until the new recall comes out, hopefully soon, as its driving me insane!)

I don't think there was a recall for 99s either, cause the dealer wanted $300+ to fix it. I'm now trying to find the wire to disconnect the noise.

What is making that nose is the relay; a relay basically switches a (+) node between 2 outputs; in this case one goes to nothing (blinker off) and one goes through the blinker light to ground (-). The way it switches is by powering an electrical magnet which pulls a metal blade toward it and it hits the 2nd contact. So the sound you are hearing is the sound that every relay makes; it's that leaf hitting the contact compeleting the circut to turn the blinker light on and off. So you cannot disconnect the power to that realy because the your blnkers will not work. If you still don't get it visit howstuffworks or google how relays work or something.

my 96' suburban does the same thing.

pvt murphy-when the relay is making the noise in my suburban the lights are not coming on which i'm sure is the same thing that it is doing in the GA's

could be because the circuit wasnt completing for a long enough time, depends on how fast it's going. When i had that problem it was a buzzing sound.

I have a 2001 Grand am se. Mine blinks to. I took it to the dealership for the recall (flash switch) and they replaced it. However, it still does it. I think it is with the blinker arm. Also I had a coolent leak...took it to a shop and was told it was a intake manifold leak (300.00) to fix. Decided to try and figure it out myself and found that the bolts had backed out. Tightened them and it stopped for 10,000 mi. Tightened again with locktight and never had a leak since.

can anyone quote prices on getting this clicking thing fixed?

price of the handle or the flasher? Just would like to know some ballparks before I take it to the shop.
