coolant leak

I have a 318i 1991 bmw that is leaking coolant from somewhere that I don't seem to find the source. Once a week I have to check the coolant level, and it usually drops about one to two inches per week. Sometimes I smell the coolant (sweet smell) coming, I guess, from the vents. Any suggestions??

Look for a white chalky dust. Thats dryed AF and just follow it to where it goes. Theres your leak!

take the cover off below the instr. cluster and remove the knee-bolster if ness. just to the right of the steering column you'll see the heater valve......
the hoses at the firewall, the valve itself or the heater core can leak...follow the pipes up towards
the console and you see where the core is.....if it's
leaking only the two screws you see there hold it in
[after removing the heater valve/pipe manifold.....jb
