Started her up, and she is now running rich

Ok, I finish replacing the head gasket on my 96 tsi, and the car is running horribly rich. I'm just wondering though, seeing as its still on jackstands, is it possible that it just needs to be driven, because I'm sure in the month or so it was down the ecu definitely forgot a few things, seeing as it took a little bit of idling to get it to idle somewhere near a normal level.

check all your piping connenctions, if there's a small leak, it might possibly run rich. are you venting your BOV? try reset the batter to clear the ECU.
