Hello,
I have discovered that a CV boot is badly torn on my 1971 Eldorado.
How difficult is this to replace? Do I need special tools?
Thank
Gary

it shouldnt be too tough to replace, its just a rubber boot. i just got a 71 eldo also, and when we got it we noticed the boot was ripped also. sine we just bought it we werent sure whether it was ripped for a long time or not, so we just got the CV shaft replaced.
if it was just ripped it would be ok to replace the boot only, as long as the bearings are OK. but if its been ripped for a while the bearing could be filled with sand and dirt or whatever, and that wouldnt be good at all. i think you should play it safe and get a new CV shaft. itll run you a buck, but possibly save some grief later on. and 500's love to eat CV shafts anyway so its good to pop a new one in there. your mechanic should do that by the way
