95 GTS Won't Start

Got a 95 GTS that will not start. The fuel pump does not make any noise when I turn the car on so it could be the fuel pump. My question is this...how can I rule out the fuel pressure regulator and/or the fuel pump relay (if this car has one)? I cannot find ANYTHING in the manuals about a fuel pump relay but I have been told repeatedly that there is one....they just don't know where it is. Any info or experience is appreciated...thanks!

i am not 100% sure about this, but i got a feeling that the fuel pump relay is under your seat. I am not certain on the SN95 cars though.

To rule out the fuel pump its self the best way I have found and about the only way I know of it to drop the tank, pull the pump, and bench test it.

Personally i wouldnt go through all of that to test the pump. If you dont have a pressure tester then either find somebody who does or have it taken to a mechanic. Besides that i know of no way of a person bench testing a fuel pump because you can't just put power to the pump and if it runs rule it out. Fuel pumps for fuel injected vehicles are very tricky. They can be running but still not have enough pressure or flow to let the vehicle run properly.

The fuel pump relay was moved for the 94-95 model year (from previous years) to the ccrm relay module that is located near the front of the engine compartment by the radiator. Its not changable by itself.
You could also check the fuel pump cutoff switch that is located in the left side of the trunk i believe. All you do is push the switch in to reset it (if it cut out).
I'd check that first, then fuel pump pressure, and spark.

I wish it was as easy as the cutoff switch, I tried that first.

I was trying to avoid taking it to a mechanic because I will have to have it towed there. It will not start at all. I would change it myself but I am pretty sure I can't get the back jacked up high enough to drop the tank. So testing it or changing it by dropping the tank is almost impossible. I just wanted to rule out the things I COULD change but I think the regulator is okay. At least I can hear it.

You were able to answer the one question no one else could...where the fuel pump relay is. I guess it still could be that be more than likely it is the pump itself. The car has 140,000 on it so it probably is the pump. Dammit.

Thanks for the info.

That leads to another question.....IF I am going to change the fuel pump would it be beneficial to go to a high performance pump? I have read where many have gone to a 190-lph or a 255-lph pump. What are pros and cons?

Thanks peoples!

Yea you are probably best off going with a slightly higher flowing pump if you are going to modify the car at some point in the future.
If you dont plan on modding the car i wouldnt even bother, but then again who the heck doesnt modify their stang? LOL
I believe you can drop the tank with the car on the ground. I've only done it on a lift and it was very easy but i'm sure you can get it jacked up high enough to do it on the ground.

On that year car the fuel pump relay or reset if located in the trunk on the left side behind the tail light. I had the same problem once pushing that reset fixed the problem. I would try that first. The second thing you'll have to do is find out what caused it. My fuel pump was going out. After it was replaced I never had the problem again.

I went to a 190gh fuel pump because I wanted to go with either a 24lb fuel pump or a 30lb injector. I prob could have gotten by with a 155gh but I wanted to make sure I had enough fuel. Most shops I talked agreed and said go with the 190gh. Unless your going with a monster motor with a large supercharger that requires 42lb injectors or larger a 190gh should be fine.

Thanks people. I will get to working on this this weekend. If anyone has any brand recommendations on the high flow fuel pump let me know.

THANKS for all your help :lol2:
