Well, for those who keep up with world events, etc., this past weekend they kicked off the construction of the new Freedom Tower at the World Trade Center Site. The company that I work for was chosen to do the setting of the cornerstone of the new building. If any of you are interested, here is the link.

Since a friend of mine from high school was killed that day, as were so many other friends and loved ones, I think the new complex is really nice work. Build the thing bigger, taller and stronger than before.

That's because you're from Idaho. Most people forget that's an actual state. We wouldn't expect you to feel much of anything. :thefinger

Yes, that's exactly it. Thank you for that wonderful explanation of why I feel the way I do. I mean, I know that it's sometimes hard for me to explain why I have certain feelings, but when you explain it, it just makes sense. Wow.

Right on. This sort of saddens me -- turns out the architect's vision for the project keeps getting curbed and watered-down and such by the owner, who wants to squeeze as much money out of the place as possible.

I mean, the place should be a national monument first and a commercial concern second ( :2cents: )... ah well.
I liked one early idea -- rebuild the towers exactly as they were before (a big 'fuck you' to the terrorists) but with massive, 11-floor indoor gardens on the floors that were hit...

Horray! Bigger buildings make easier targets.

Is that a useful conclusion? Might be true, but only sickos and shit heads would see that and comment on it.

Jesus, don't take it so personally. I'm just pointing out the quite obvious fact that if there are going to be any planes flying into buildings in the future;
that making a building in the same spot, only this time it's way bigger might not be the best idea.
Unless the put a S.A.Missle bunker on the roof to take out an incoming "737 of doom."
That would be a little more with the "don't fuck with me" attitude this country is running on right now.

I believe they should build the Towers back. Same height, well maybe a little bigger. But, I think they should have Gardens on the floors that got hit.

I personally think they should have made a garden of the area and made a memorial to all those who perished in the tragedy.

Yeah that's what I would have one. Make an exact copy of the original building from the outside. Obviously with better safety and such.
But maybe with a big fuckoff SAM suite on the top floor... Just for show obviously. You wouldn't actully want to shoot anything down over the city unless you couldn't help it.

although i don't think they're stupid enough to try the same gig a second time. if they were gonna hit a building like that, it wouldn't be with airplanes again. they're crafty, they'd find a different, maybe even more devastating way. that's why the government needs to do a good job about our security.
