im starting to plan my next system and im thinking about 2 12's. at least 400W each preferrably 600-1000. Numbers dont tell the whole story so... i just need some good opinions. considering elemental designs, audiobahn, eclipse, boston, maybe alpine but type R's dont impress me very much and X are too expensive, and possibly momo and infinity.

take audiobahn out of there, i'd say either elemental designs or boston acoustics...

check out adire audio's brahma and resonant engineering's xxx....I think those are the best two in that price range.

ah your up in the good stuff there
Adire Brahma (www.adireaudio.com)
RE XXX (www.reaudio.com)
eD Ov2 (www.edesignaudio.com) (not out yet though, so there are no opinions or bases for comparison)
IDMAX (www.imagedynamicsusa.com)
I would stick to any of those and be done with it, don't screw around with the other stuff you listed (except for maybe the eclipse titaniums)

wait, scratch the XXX, it's too inefficient to work well on that amount of power. It would like closer to 1500 rms for it to shine, the brahma or idmax on the other hand would work much better on the power you are going to have available.

keep audiobahn as an option..if they suck so bad why does Xzibit have 4 Audiobahn 12's in his H2?
I have 2 and can personally say that other than 4 12's in my friends truck, its the loudest car I've been in. Check the upper end of audiobahns gear tho..alot of people get the low end stuff and base their opinions off that and then it spreads that audiobahn isn't so good. But to each there own.

i definetly think audiobahn is a great brand. however, Ive narrowed my choices down to either Eclipse or Boston Acoustics. Bostons ProSeries 12.5 is an awesome performer. 1200W RMS for only $300 a peice? sounds like a bargain to me. ill probably get two of them....they hit extremely hard.

what kind of amp are you looking at pushing those?
alphalanos
07-09-2004, 10:00 AM
i dont know yet. theres a boston amp that has 1,000W x1 at 2 ohm so i can bridge them to that. but it costs $1,000...too much. have any suggestions?

JBL 1200.1 has 1200w RMS x 1 @ 2 ohms.. $300.
Thats what I have powering 2 Audiobahn 12's and I can say that it has never let me down...I have another 1200.1 in my house but haven't come to the decision to power both Audiobahns off seperate amps..doesn't really need it.

because xzibit is a dumbass when it comes to car audio, and thats what audiobahn depends on, people who go for looks and would make their desiscion based on what a gay rapper has in his car, its apparent that you have no desire for your car to sound good, just to get loud, and the reason it does get loud is because you have a good amp, but if you would have bought an audiobahn amp, it would have broken down within the first year you had it, and it would be overrated as where the jbl is far underrated

they have good sq if you can manage the freq.level and input on your amp..if not..then they might sound crappy when not adjusted (for those who get them installed professionally and have no idea about the nobs on your amp, then yeah they might just sound boomy and loud), my car sounds good enough.

"good enough"? This guy has a budget of $400 per sub, apparently he's not just looking for "good enough" but "amazing". Audiobahns get loud and sound bad. They're much like the Kicker L7s IMO, except they don't sound quite as good and they're less reliable.
Seriously dude, take a HARD look at the brahma

what do you want to know?
I'll admit I don't like Adire's new website, but they still have the info on it, you just have to look harder
http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/cut%20sheets/Brahma%20Sales%20Brochure.pdf
http://www.acoustic-visions.com/~acoustic/products/subwoofer_drivers/adire_brahma/
If you want opinions, just run a search for "brahma" on just about any audio forum on the net (carsound.com, caraudioforum.com, soundillusions.net, icixsound.com, elitecaraudio.com, etc)

i hear all this stuff about Brahma...keeping in mind that I have a Focus ZX3..would it be wise to sell my 2 12" Audiobahns and get 1 Brahma 15 being powered by some JBLs on each set of voice coils(giving it 2400 watts rms?) I've found that I can fit an apprx. 6.0 cuft. box in my hatch.
I can say that my audiobahns sound good in my experiences but I haven't heard Adire or RE's subs..just pioneer, kenwood, jvc, rf, cv and infinitys..

2400 is way too much for a brahma, it is a very efficient sub. In a medium box you're going to hit maximum excursion with 1000 watts or less, any more is just headroom
loismustdie
07-10-2004, 12:26 PM
the jbl 1200.1 amp will give 1200 watts at 1 ohm and 2 ohms, and the brahma will give you such better sq than those audiobahns, it will literally be night and day difference..........

ok..my wife is going to be pizzed by me selling one of our anniversary gifts (audiobahn 12)..but its something she must realize. So since I'm going to go thru with this and this will be my final switch for a while...which is better for sq? Brahma, Tumult or XXX?
loismustdie
07-11-2004, 01:55 PM
isn't the tumult an 18? i'd go with either the xxx or the brahma, they both are pretty much equal in sq, i say go for the cheaper one,
p.s. the brahma will probly get louder with the 1200-1400 watts, but the box has to be a good one, can't be one of those best buy or walmart boxes.......

I really like the Eclipse Titaniums...SW9122 12" Continuous Power Handling: 750W

My other choice would be the Jl 12w7.
also rated at 750 watts rms
