'98 Skylark ate my wallet

Thought I'd share my 1998 3.1 L Skylark horror story with the forum to hopefully save some others from buying somebody else's problem. Bought the vehicle in 2001 and had no problems at all for a year, but then anything and everything went wrong. @ 56,000k the tranny went ($1500). Then an intake gasket began leaking coolant all over the place ($600 repair, all labor of course). Electrical problems ensued and power windows stopped working and could only be controlled by driver's side. Idiot lights came on for no reason whatsoever. GM recalled it in 2004 due to a faulty ignition switch (thank god, a repair I didnt have to pay for!) Had a gas line leak problem. Also needed to replace the timing chain. Paid about $7,000 for the car and after all that crap plus the normal maintainance like shocks, tires, oil changes and the like I must have stuck at least another $3,000 in. I shouldn't complain b/c it could have been worse, but the damn thing was in the shop almost every month. Beware, 1998 bad yr for Buick Skylark.

Brace yourself for the bad news. These 3.1 L engines are notorious for braking the camshaft in the 95,000 mile range, often requiring a complete engine rebuild.

Where can I find out more info on the breaking camshaft on these engines? I've got 114k on mine and it runs good however I would like to be informed just in case something should happen.
