Simple brake question.

I heard some scraping noises from my front disc brakes on my 2001 chevy cavalier, so i took the tire off and lo and behold, the pads are almost gone. So i picked up some new ones, and i'm going to change them tonight, (cant be too much different from my neon right?), but i just wanted to make sure there isnt anything i need to know. The thing is, the neon didnt have anti lock brakes and this does. Will that change anything when changing the brakes?

When i changed the brakes on the neon, this is how it'd usually go,

take 2 bolts out,
slide the caliper off,
take the pads off,
use a C-Clamp to slowly push the caliper back in,
put the new pads on
slide the caliper back over the rotor,
put the bolts back in and make sure everything is tight
give the brake a few pumps to make sure the brakes are tight, and voila.


Sound about right?

Also, i was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations on how to easily get my car to have stiffer suspension. The car leans quite a bit when turning and i usually like to have tighter suspension than that.

That sounds about right for the brakes you might want to have the rotor's turned just so u have to new clean suface's. As far as the suspension u might want to try a front and rear sway bar kit. I know they do not come factory with a rear. Strut tower braces might also help stiffen it up as well. Here r some places online that sell cav. parts.

When I did mine front brake rotor/pad last month, my 96 Cavalier's caliper pins required a 3/8 Hex/Torque bit. Make sure you first get the special hex wrench bit.

You can loosen the cap on the master cylinder, and then use a long flat screwdriver to push the pistons in a little faster than a C-clamp. :-)
