This is my first time in a forum. When reading through I was releaved to see that I am not alone in this mystry oil loss problem that seems to occur. I have a 99 Trooper with 55,000 mi on. Bought it with alittle over 51,000 mi on and have owned less than a year. No warnings no lights went on, no oil leaks in the driveway, temperature fine, nothing. I use this vehicle for very minimal driving. All of a sudden, a ticking sound and the oil light flashes on. I stopped right away. My father in-law checked it out and ended up putting 4qts of oil in before it would even register. The ticking subsided, and I used it just for running errands for a couple of days. Checked the oil, showed it was full. On my way to see fireworks, 20 mi away, I heard a knocking sound and stopped the vehicle. I got it towed to my local garage. I'm told the engine is shot.
Well, I called my local Iszuz dealership. They told me that it first came in service in march of 99'. It is now july of 04'. The powertrain warranty is for 60mo/60Kmi. It it 4 mo out of warranty, but still only has 55Kmi. They tell me it is way beyond the warranty period and that thereis nothing they can do to help me. I then called the Iszuz owner Relations Department. They again told me that it is far out of the warranty period.
PLEASE, If anyone has any ideas an what I should do next. Or any other info on this oil loss problem and etc., please let me know. It is currantly sitting at my local garage, and they want to know how I want to proceed. You can try to email me at [email protected], but I'm curranty having problems with my pc. Or please email at [email protected], and I can check as often as I can. Please send it ATT. rutherejr/infoTrooper. Thanks Alot in advance for any and all help associated with my problem.

Check www.car-parts.com for a used engine.

My truck seems to use a lot of oil, why?
Oil usage. Yep Isuzu states that 1qt/1000miles is within spec. So the key is to keep an eye on your oil. The most common ways to decrease your oil consumption is to clean your EGR valve and tube, EGR port (behind the intake butterfly) (link to a how to clean the EGR), replace the PCV valve. Also, trying to keep the rings clean (add Chevron Techron Concentrate® every 3k, and once a year add a half can of Sea Foam® to the oil (following the directions). Dirty rings (holes in the rings) are the main cause for oil usage. The 98-mid00 have fewer and smaller drain holes in the rings as compared to the 93-97 3.2L rings. The second part of 2000 Isuzu put in rings with more and bigger holes, but there still seems to be many 2000-2002 Isuzu’s that use oil.
Oil usage commonly increases while driving the truck hard, including during highway interstate conditions. If your taking a cross country trip, check your oil every time you fill up with gas.
If you take many short trips with your truck, make sure you change the oil at least every 3k. If you don’t run the truck (or any vehicle) at least 30 minutes every time it is started up the oil breakdown products are not able to boil off and can cause sludgeing (which can clog those oil rings).
The Isuzu service bulletin regarding excessive oil consumption (> 1qt per
1000 miles) is service bulletin # IB00-01-5002.
As for Oil useage, I was reading my CD manual last night, and it stated the following reasons for increased oil consumption: 1. Dirty EGR (system) 2. Dirty PCV 3. Carbon up piston rings 4. Long highway trip 5. Towing

I had the same problem w/my 99 Trooper. Unfortunately, I was in AZ in the middle of nowhere & my engine "froze up". No warning lights, nothing. Mileage was about 61000. Isuzu told me couldn't help because just out of warranty. Costs to replace outrageous. Maybe we should try a class action suit since it seems we are not the only ones. Hmmm. Only problem is it is our word against theirs that there was no warning of a problem such as nearly out of oil. I ordered a remanufactured engine for my Trooper and when it was finally installed it wasn't working. One cylinder wasn't firing. That engine was sent back to the manufacturer, tested, found defective and a credit was issued to the distributer. No money ever refunded to me. Mechanic says he never got the refund. Distributor not talking. The problem was I was dealing w/people I will never see again due to not in my home area. I have involved the atty gen ofc of two states involved. And I had to buy another engine & installation. Good luck in making decision. My used engine is just fine.
