serious but expensive H.P. the engine [S52 US] fits
[they build them you know] but you'll need the entire driveline[front pulleys to rear wheels], radiator, braces, harnesses......maybe just buy a M-Roadster or Coupe, might be much cheaper in the end.

thanks a lot for your reply. could you give me some better advice on how to get a lot of h.p. besides a supercharger, which i have already planned on purchasing, for a z3 1.9? I'm looking for a $5-10,000 limit. thanks again.

well, honestly?, for the money you really should consider selling your Z3 and finding another 2.8 or 3.0 liter roadster...........honestly! if you insist on your present car, the supercharger sounds best.

Engine will not fit very easily at all - for starters you wont be able to close bonnet!!! - Z3M has big hump to accomodate straight 6...

ummm, ok, but, physically, externally, the dimensions are identical between the M52/TU, M54, and the S52, S54 so I'm not sure what your......... the 'bonnet' closes quite nicely on the ones I service.
But keep coming back.

Why bother. If you get a 1.9 it is inherently slow less horse power than a stocl Honda Civic, you could have the 1.9 bored and stroked, but by the time you do an engine swap, wiring harness update, drive line swap the conversion is going to cost thousands over what it would cost to get a built stock motor, or even buy an M roadster outright, you're looking at a money pit, and when you go to sell it no one will want it, just bore and stroke it.

Yes u can fit it in the car its not really any complication just alot of work ahead of ya but well worth it no hump either z3's have 2.5 and 2.8 straight six's money wise i'd buy a wreck M-coupe for around 3500 bucks or more i've seen engs. go for that but with a wreck u get wiring harnesses, comp.,driveline, and M suspension heh Hope this helps.
