Cost effective upgrade

Hey everyone

I own a 94' SSS (KE24DE) that is standard and is just on 100,000km. After owning the car for half a year now, im starting to look into ways to make it perform better and breathe easier. The question is, what are the most economical ways to extract performance from the car? By economical i mean horsepower increase to the dollar. I'm aiming to achieve a 20% increase in go, without turbocharging. Am i being unrealistic? What can i do for a few thousand? My budget isnt huge, so cost effectivenesss is important. Any suggestions or sharing of experience would be great. Thanks

I have the perfect solution for you.

go to your local exhaust shop, ask for a custom 2 1/2 inch exhaust pipe.
that will increase airflow from your exhaust and boost your horsepower about 15hp

get on ebay, find either an OBX Racing or Hot Shot Performance header, get that and have it installed 12hp

get back on ebay, find a bomz intake, have it installed. 15hp

get on ebay again, find an Apexi N1 Muffler w/2 1/2" inlet
that will boost hp a good 14hp

finally, get on ebay one more time...and find a cat converter (down pipe) it replaces your cat converter and boost your 12hp

so that's 68hp increase
your car will have that sweet, low, hum to it
and it will perform much better.

do you have dyno charts? Bro, you gotta realize those are the BEST #'s they have gotten out of those products. you cant just add those #'s together and voila thats the magic #. it doesnt owrk that way. go get you altima dyno'd ill bet with those upgrades you will have closer to 40 extra hp. not 68

Try this it works its jus ghetto though, startin with the intake open up the box, u can see that the bottom box part has three bolts in it take em out get rid of the lower section of the box along with the pipe that goes into the fender, the air temperture sensor should be located on the upper part of the box, but on some models it is located on the pipe that goes into the fender, if it is take it out , drill a hole in that box and relocate it there, about that filter find some clamps, or wires, or rubberbands lol to keep it in the box so it wont fall out

Wot about a replacement management chip? i hear they're good for about 15-20kw which is roughly 25hp and can be retuned to suite further upgrades. Can someone suggest a brand that has been proven to perform well?

Also, is it worth replacing the airbox with a pod type filter? Does doing that upset any sensors etc in a ke24de? Or would u guys just recommend changing the existing paper filter with, say, a K&N (or similar) re-usable wet element filter. I do a bit of country driving so i feel this may help.

Dont use the kn air filters on nissans the oils on the filter will burn out the mass air sensor just use a regular cotton filter and the sensors r essential on the altima dont fuck with them , and if u do make sure u relocate them in the spot that they work in AND about the chips those r bullshit, they dont work or at least on nissans, to free hp in that department is to fuck with the ecu which has to be sent off to jim wolf technologies, but thats only needed with cams or turbos or nitrous and its also around 800 dollars kinda high, hope that helps

a n/a ka24 will not respond as well to those mods as you think. the only number you are close on is the header/downpipe possibly freeing up about 10-12 hp together. a catalytic convertor is also good for about 2 hp. a full cat-back exhaust might give you 6-8 hp, if you punch out the cat or get a high flow cat you may get 1-2 more. a muffler will not give 14 hp gains, more like 1-2hp. there's no way you'll see 68 hp on an altima from bolt on parts. all the parts you've listed might free up 20-25 hp, tops.
