i just went on ebay and just for kicks looked up svo mustang. much to my suprise, 5 came up. turned out one was a 604 inch pro street car that had nothign to do with svo... but the other 4 were genuine svos, in all sorts of shapes. it had me curious seeing as how i'm in the market for a new/used car right now (and will probably end up with a '91 'scort GT i'm lookign at). if i had just another 1500 to spare i might be dumb enough to bid on one of 'em.

anyway... no real point to this story i just thought i'd share.

yup that is correct. They were nice cars, faster than the 5.0's but the price killed them. From what I understand, they were mostly setup to take a corner. Also parts are abundant for the turbo 2.3. It is a real popular engine for alot of kit car guys. It is also a popular swap for guys who have thoes MG midgets and stuff like that. The SVO and the turbo coupe shared the same engine so if you ever needed parts out of a bone yard, parts off a Turbo coupe T-bird should work.

84 THROUGH 86 actually. a guy near here has a restored one with a stock turbo/intercooler setup, on nitrous. quick little car too.

84, 85, 85.5, and 86.
Just shy of 10k made over the 3 years. They were designed to compete against cars like the BMW 3-series. Sort of a euro/road race/luxury sport coupe.

The SVO specific parts are getting rare, but if you buy a complete car, you'll have everything you need. Normal maintenance stuff is readily available, it's just things like the hoods/front ends/wheels/wings/side spats/headlights are hard to find.

Just traded my 86 SVO a couple weeks ago.

If you wanna be sure you have a genuine SVO, the first part of the VIN should be 1FABP28T.... if it doesn't have that "28T" it's not a real SVO.

i never under stood why fords i4's always look cramped and the v8's dont, a 122cu in i4 takkes up more room then a 302 v8 in a focus, its lik the try to bunch it all together

with a single turbo, it is impossible to have twin pipes.

Yes, they have duel tail pipes out the back, but not true duels all the way.

???

Um, that '84 looks like a custom job to me. The Cobra fender badges didn't even exist yet in '84. The dash plaque is a '93 Cobra hatch emblem. Ford never made a "G.T. 302" that I'm aware of, unles this was a one-off Ford deal like the 6.1 CJR they made in '95 or John Coletti's '94 Boss 429

Not trying to flame, but I gotta call :bs:

local dealer appraised at $18k, it has a little over 38K original miles, not a one off, bought from ford dealer, my dad is the original owner and got it from him

whiteferrari

it is , the dealer I take it to has tried to talk me into selling it to him everytime I go. AS he showed me an article in some of his magazines, the 1984 302 is one of the rarest mustangs. So I am pretty sure it is, the scoop I changed to get a better air flow the rest is what came from the dealer(factory) I am have decieded to put it up for sell and have not had time to go down there but In a couple days if none of the interested parties do not purchase I will sell it to him. I have decieded to follow my dad and move to Ferrari and Lamborghini, because they are more of my style of cars, the mustang was cool for a muscle car and I love the cars to death but, I like the lime green murcielago just a little more, so I am going to pursue. I am not the kind of person to get repilcas or modify cars to much. Just what makes sense. I am not trying to yell at you, just love the car and defend it as long as I have it. 1984 svo cobra, if it was not legit I don't think it would appraise at what it did for its age. I just baby my cars, Never seen rain or snow. that kind of stuff. I have a daily driver for that kind of stuff. Best Regards Tim

but a SVO is a i4 so its NOT a SVO

and they only sold 32k that year because ford said that late 84 they were gonna make a 205hp version so people help off buying them but ford didnt make the power increase till 85

that still deosnt explain why you called it a SVO

The car's official name on title is " 1984 svo Predator mustang cobra" It would mean it is a, a , svo Predator mustang cobra built in 1984. I used to live and breathe mustangs but, now it has become something of the past and want to move up to ferrari and lamborghini. For the sake of argument I can go with no svo but why would that be what the car has on title?? Go figure, I just want out of the car for what I paid .

OK I see it now from the corral link, it's made by a custom tuner, so it's similar to a Roush or Saleen or Steeda 'Stang. I knew it didn't leave Dearborn like that...

Ford uses the name SVO on a lot of stuff (before SVT). That's why you can buy 'SVO' crate engines from Ford.

Real Mustang SVOs have VINs that start with 1FABP28T. If your VIN doesn't have that combonation, it's not an SVO.

does the SVO come with the twin pipes? are they functional?
The 85.5, and 86 models had dual exhaust; the 84 and 85 models had single exhaust. It is functional. Right after the single cat, there's a Y-pipe which leads into dual mufflers and tailpipes.

They only sold about 3k/year for the 3 years. It was never a big seller because Ford didn't widely advertise it, and because it was about $5k more than a 5.0L GT ($11k for the GT, $16k for the SVO).
