Do you think that it was a good idea to rip out my powerglide and put in a 700r4? I know the powerglide is durable but I was told the 700r4 would make my car alot faster. Oh and the 700r4 has a B&M shift kit in it.
tacoma man.
07-06-2004, 10:43 PM
sounds good to me, are you having diffulties with the 700r4?

Whats so bad about a lockup???
You can swap a 700R4 in there no problem. The crusing rpms would be waay lower and your top speed would shoot up. Youd get better gas mileage and it would be a little easier on your engine.

Are all torque converters lock up?? I dont know alot about them, theres no such thing as a manual lockup that would lock at a certain rpm?
korndogg
07-06-2004, 11:24 PM

what kit did you look at that was over $100. the one i showed you was like 70 or something. ill find the spacific one. and i thought you already took out the powerglide and stuff, and no they are not strong. the are one of the weekest. and dont anyone start saying they are strong beacause they are not. and yes i know thats what alot of drag racers use along with top fuel but they are by no means stock.

i dunno..it was a kit on summit that i saw. i did take the powerglide out...i just wanted to know what people thought of me doing this.

oh. well i think its a good improvement. theres a reason im also plannign on a swap in my chevelle. i already have everything i need, except i need a few mroe dollars to get my new pump and the gaskets for that and then i can put it in, except im using a 2004R not the 700.

korndogg
07-07-2004, 02:27 AM
i have the one from the powerglide...dont think that would work tho...hell i could probably use that one if i wanted a non lockup..haha

07-07-2004, 02:31 AM
lol. umm i dont think so. i just thought you had the stock one that came with the tranny that was all. cuz your engine is stock basicaly isnt it? i think i remember it being but then again im not sure.
korndogg
07-07-2004, 02:32 AM

oh ok. yeah if you cant find a high stall like you want then it really wont hurt you much. i mean yeah it will be better for the strip with a high stall but its mostly stock probably so its not really that big of an isue. if you ever build the engine then you can just replace the converter when you have the engine out.
korndogg
07-07-2004, 02:39 AM
yeah i want like a 2400 stall.....do lockups come with that high of a stall?

Yeah a my neighbor had someball adjusted in a 700R an the torque increase was crazy - he has a 305 tpi the tires now can spin goin into second if ur on it all the way -he doesnt loose really anything - the aceleration is all there cause u dont loose it the trans run about 3-5 times stronger ... plus alot of people will tell ya that oh 700R's are shitty this an that but in acuality they are a really good trans. even if u dont do anything to them - just being that the trans runs good an the torque converter is not in bad condition....

07-07-2004, 02:04 PM
well im buying a new converter, and the tranny has a B&M shift kit in it. The guy i bought it from said before it came out of the IROC the tires chirped goin into 1st 2nd and 3rd.

but i already gave you the link for the one you need. if you get the relay stye one your just making more work for yourself. get the "GM plunger style" one.
