Cooling fan controler woes

My cooling fan controler burned up in my 1989 mustang L X so i replaced the fan motor sending unit and the controler....Next thing I know every time I turn my air on the wires to the fan controler get red hot and start
melting wires.
A mechanic told me it was in my air cond. system
