Real quick question... I just got a 98 accord and the manual says to use ONLY HONDA COOLANT. I called the local Auto Zone Etc... and they say that Prestone Anti Freeze is fine. I figured it was also. But i want to make sure..Can someone verify this..I have always used Non-honda anti freeze in my past hondas...I posted this in the Honda section. I got alot of looks but nobody will give a answer. Is it that easy or are people wondering? Please let me know so i can change mine soon.....

Well there might be a possibility of 2 different metals in the engine or between the engine and radiator, which could cause corrosion. Or the pump could use extra lurication from the coolant.
Their Honda coolant might have corrosion inhibitors or anti friction lubricants for the water pump.
If this is a worrie buy some Water Wetter and add the proper ammount to the water/Anti-Freeze mixture to help inhibit corrosion which always occurs.

O sorry, yes Prestone should be fine...well any anti-freeze should be i think.... but adding Water Wetter is always a bonus no matter what your using.

There are different types of anti-freeze, use Hondas or anti-freeze of the correct type from another brand and you should be fine. It's likely that Honda just buy their stuff from another company and put their own label on it, but the important thing is that you get the correct anti-freeze, which you are guaranteed if you buy Hondas.
