Cycle fenders, how wha...?

How are cycle fenders attached to the hub? I imagine they aren't... erm... taped to the tire. I would assume they use some sort of long wirey thing to the hub that's nice and out of the way to allow the wheel to turn and move up and down in the suspension. This seems rather convoluted, though. Is there some other more obvious attachment point I'm missing?

old school bikes have two thin rods on each side that are attached to the axle and the fender, newer style bikes have them mounted directly o the bottom section of the forks, usually two bolts per side, therefore ti will travel up and down with the tire and the fork

Are you talking about on the Lotus Super 7?

On the Lotus 7 they are attached to the upper A-arm by round brackets.
There are some good pics on this page on how they attach

You can kinda see the rod here it attaches under the fender where you see the chrome bolts on top.

I actually found those pics while searching. I can't really tell if you're right or not, but I would suspect that they aren't attached to the upper A arm because then they wouldn't be able to turn left/right with the wheels. They would have to be attached to the front spindles, right? Or am I still crazy.

I think you've got it.
Like a bicycle fender (do bikes have fenders anymore...?) just struts on one side. Maybe some thin brass wire.
:p

Looking at the photo CADguy posted, the mounts go to the spindle, not the upper A-arm.

You're definately correct. They attach to the back of the spindle.
