First off im sorry for the quality of the scans, my scanner past its best a long long time ago.

anyway i have 2 pics for you, the first one taken from a calander:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ch.white/mclarenf1/mac1.jpg

i put the plate into forum search and found this thread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=144492&highlight=m14+mcl) by mini magic, which seems to show a photo from same shoot, but different angle.

also you seemed to think it was black, and i know my pic looks black, but on the original it definatly has a hint of green...

2nd image is one you wont have:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ch.white/mclarenf1/mac2.jpg

taken by a friend of my dads, i have no idea when or where it was taken (im pretty sure its in UK). Only info is the car belonged to someone who worked for McLaren. This one also looks dark green with light interior, could they be the same car?

Enjoy the pics

"Only info is the car belonged to someone who worked for McLaren. "

Might it belong to The Man himself? (Gordon Murray)

Looks like XP5 to me. Interiors do not look the same

Yeah - I was going to say "XP5" as well.

And current speculation as you might have read, has the black car in the first set of photos as #007 in a past life.

Gordon's is/was a Silver one

If Gordon had a silver one, could it possibly be chassis #001? I believe that was called "McLaren's own car" by Tiff in the Top Gear review of the F1.

Gordon apparently has XP3 - this was discussed some time ago. I got independent verification of this as well. I was told the car was given to him, but there may be more to that story.

Hello Andybee, you have worked to McLaren ?

Do you know how many (and what chassis beside 011, 073 and 075) were owned by Ojjeh brothers please ?

Ciao
Phil

Sorry to bump this up but i'm going through and re-doing all the histories i have on cars and remembered that someone on dtmpower.net did say that 007 was owned by Gordon Murray before Frank. Maybe Drew can confirm?

I recently acquired the Christies auction catalog with this car on the cover when it was first auctioned in 1998. The description doesn't make any mention of any famous owners, and I would think if ownership of the car could be credited to Murray that would be something notable to include in that text.

I can't say absolutely not, but this is the first time anyone has suggested to me that the car was owned by GM. I doubt it.

Good to see you Mr. Selldorff - hope all is well. :)

Here is the full auction description as taken from their catalog dated May 18, 1998. The auction took place in Geneva at the Hotel Richemond with viewing at the Grand Casino Noga Hilton.

Lot #53:

1994 McLAREN F1

Chassis No. 007
Black with creme leather seats and brown carpets.

Engine: V12 BMW, double overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder, electronic fuel injection, 6064cc, 627bhp @ 7500rpm; Gearbox: six-speed manual; Brakes: ventilated discs, four piston monoblock light alloy calipers, computer cooling with balance aerofoil; Suspension: double unequal length wishbones. Ground Plane Shear Centre subframes and anti-roll bar (front), Inclined Axis Shear mounting system with toe in/toe out control links (rear), alloy dampers, co-axial springs. Central steering.

Ironically the idea of the most exciting road car ever to be built was born out of a meeting of the minds after the Italian Grand Prix in September 1998, where McLaren had just failed to clinch victory, and which would have given the company a grand slam that season. The though of building the perfect road car became reality when six months later McLaren Cars Limited was announced in Rio, the mandate being based on Gordon Murray's premise "it had to be the very best car McLaren could make, regardless of cost".

The result, of course, was the most sensational combination of styling, performance, build quality and design ever seen in a road car. For the technically minded the F1 featured a BMW V12 set at 60° and producing maximum power of 627 bhp at 7400rpm, with a power to weight ratio of 550bhp per tonne. Featuring four valves per cylinder and continuous variable inlet valve timing, the dry sump magnesium case engine fed power through a tranverse six-speed gearbox mated to a triple plate carbon clutch with aluminum flywheel. Performance was a stunning maximum speed of 231mph and yet here was an engine that would also let its driver trickle through traffic in sixth gear on idle, as happened to Gordon Murray in a test car for 15 miles. The brakes were four piston monobloc light-alloy calipers acting on ventilated discs.

But it was not all about technical specification, for the body was equally unique, drawing on McLaren's Formula 1 expertise; this was of entirely carbon fiber advanced composite construction, with a carbon safety cell to protect the three occupants - three because the concept of a central 'single seater' driving position with a passenger either side had been a prerequisite of Murray's design.

Customers, who were shown the car at the Monaco launch in 1992, were able to choose their precise driving requirements with even the pedals set to suit. The equipment level for the McLaren was not forgotten - Facom titanium tool kit, magnesium alloy wheels, Kenwood CD stereo and complete luggage set with golf bag - to name but a few of the standard features.

As the first customer cars were delivered early in 1994, the worldwide reaction was unanimous in its praise. Here was a concept executed to perfection. Yet there was more to come when a McLaren F1 won LeMans at the first outing.

Chassis 007 is, we believe, the first road car to be offered at auction anywhere in the world. It has travelled just 460 kilometers from new; it has been serviced by the factory mechanic, and is sold with all relating correspondence.

This is genuinely a unique opportunity, as the factory are no longer building these supercars. Please note that the McLaren is not road-registered and therefore will be sold with taxes to be paid.

Estimate on request
