The Inevitable has happened tonight...

My fucking driver side door handle broke off on me tonight... Not too happy right now. I just read about everyone elses and thanks to all the previous posts, i know what to do to install them. My only question is... When you order the door handle from the dealer, do they send you the handle pre-painted to match the color of your car? Or do you have to get it painted yourself?

im not positive about the 2g, but on my laser when i ordered one it was painted the factory color red. (note: it wont be a special color like lime green, just one of the factory ones)

I know that you could get them painted.. but I think they stoped doing that and just sell the unpainted ones now.

Just call any dealer up and ask them!

Fuck the inevitable, the unthinkable just happened this very morning. After getting off the highway, the light turns green, and i press the gas. My car jerks twice, and now it only revs, both drive and reverse. Mehopes it's only a cable, since it was shifting fine and hasn't slipped beforehand. But this is my main concern now. Thanks for the help on the handle though.

yea that sucks when that shit happens, but the dealer sells them only in black paint....you have to get them painted another color if you want

yeah, and they never fit right. I had to install my own and it sucked.

actually E-Bay has stuff like that...$10 or something. see them all the time.

Weeeelllll, it's the tranny. My only option is to rebuild or replace. Hopefully it will be back out on the road soon. :(

If I were you, I'd junk this piece, and get a Chevy. none of this would have ever happened if you had. No door handles, and no tranny's would need replacing. I never hear of a chevy's door handle breaking off, have you? Thats right..... Take my advice. Dont waste your time with a little 1.8 liter 4 cylinder, or whatever, when you can get an awesome Impala SS stock with a massive supercharged 3.8 V6, and no goddamn eclipse will ever come close to beating it.

I was talking about quarter mile. My zero to 60 is less than 4 seconds. I have the datalogs to prove it. On a run where my 60 foot was 1.55 seconds, it was 3.7 seconds. Your Impalla SS is over 7 seconds...

Firstly, get your engines right. 1.) My engine is a 2.4l, not a 1.8. 2.) Your engine is a 3.1l v6, so why the hell are you talking about a fucking supercharged 3800? Secondly, Yeah, My cousins Tahoe has two broken handles. My moms cavalier has a broken driver side door handle. My friends old rs camaro had a broken passenger, and his 97 z-28 inside handle just snapped off in his hand yesterday. One of the dishwashers had a v-6 camaro that he had to open from the inside because both his outsides broke. My other cousins blazer has the inside handle that won't even move. So, yeah, i've heard of a chevy's door handle breaking. Only morons like you actually think about junking cars when one major thing happens. IF i were to do what you said, i would get about 120 dollars from the scrap yard for my eclipse, which is currently running, with rims on it that are worth more than your piece of shit 3.1. YEAH, i think i'll junk my piece. If i were you though, i'd junk the lumina than hang myself, but that's just me.

BTW, to everyone else hear that isn't a moron, my car is finished today, they said that the tranny is far from needing to be rebuilt, and that something just broke, so i'm going to go find out exactly what it was.

Do they know what it is? Mitsubishi and Nissan couldn't figure out what the problem is, but a friend of mine told me about this place here where I live that just works on turbo clips. So, maybe they'll be able to tell me exactly what's wrong.

Well, they said it's ready for me to pick up, so i'm assuming that they know what the problem was. When i pick it up, i'll ask them about it and post the answer.

As of now, the car is in my driveway. The only information i got out of it was that it was the linkeage. I really don't know much about transmissions, but i was charged $80, and my car runs perfectly, so i could care less right now. They said my transmission was in good condition though. So... now i move back from the transmission to my door handle, than to the side skirt which is falling, then the possibility of a for sale sign on the window. Thanks everyone.

The fucking dealer wants a 85 dollars for a fucking door handle. But they have it in stock, so i think i'm just gonna bend over and let them give it to me, cause i'm tired of unlocking the driver side, attempting to open my door and failing, then going to the passenger side, unlocking and opening the door, reach over to open the door, climb out and walk around again, and get in.

EDIT: They also said it comes in the whatever color they choose. How much to you think it would cost to paint a door handle. And how long would i have to wait before i can install it on the car?
