OK i give up. I cannot find a torque converter anywhere. I see ones that would work but they have a low stall. I was looking for a stall between 2200-2400 but the only ones that I see are like 1800-2000 stall.
IM DESPERATE.....If anyone comes across one lemme know or if you have a suggestion. Here are the stats of the converter that i would like to have (i dont know if it exists now that i looked everywhere)
Non-Lockup
2200-2400 stall
27 spline
11 or 12 inch
its for a 1988 700r4.
thanks again.

Have you tried calling summit or jegs and I would just ask for a 1984 torque converter instead of 1988 cause it can't be from a 88

Also I have a discount code that expire tonight for 10% off on summit racing parts so if you are ordering tonight let me know

ok nevermind then...since im just gonna guess its a 27 spline i was looking at the B&M Holeshot 2400 on jegs and it says this.
Engines smaller than 350 cid may not produce the torque at 2,500 rpm to achieve stall speed indicated.
I have a 327. is this gonna cause any problems??

well that why i was saying with your engine the stall isnt going to be as big of a deal. it wont actualy stall to 2500RPMs with your enigne. you can have the samy tranny and put it on two cars/engines. say you put the two engines ona engine dyno and the first engine produces 500ft.lbs. and the second one only produces 200ft.lbs. theoreticaly the one with more torque will cause the same converter to stall at a higher RPM than the weeker engine. its just the way things work. that converter should stall higher with your application than a stock one but it wont stall at 2500. it will probably be more like 1800-2000 maybe even less. like i siad its not as big of a deal with you enigne.

so do you think it would be a waste for me to get a 2400? cause thats like the only one i can find for my tranny thats decent priced

07-07-2004, 06:21 PM
i would probably still get it. are you planning on building up the engine any time, or puting in a different engine. your engine has some seriouse potential. if you want a grate engine all you really need to do is swap the cam, i know the perfect one because my dad is building the same 327 you have, just from a caprice, and you already have a good engine. plus maybe headers and a intake and carb and youll be good to go making around 350HP and like just over 400ft.lbs. of torque.

07-07-2004, 06:23 PM
yeah im gonna build it up soon or later. i gotta get other things taken care of first like tires and shocks and some front end parts.

07-07-2004, 06:24 PM
so do i count splines a or b??lol
68chevelle
07-07-2004, 06:24 PM
oh ok. then i would defenetly just get the converter now. why buy two when you can just buy one. that will be a good converter for when you get it built so just get it now and save some money.

honetly, i dont really know. i would probably say the big part. well crap i dunno. the big part is the stator and the little one is the imput shaft. so maybe actualy "A". im honetly not sure.

someone just told me that he heard that if you have 3.73 or lower gears you will burn up the tranny prematurely cause it will heat up in overdrive?? i have 3.42 gears

07-07-2004, 06:55 PM
well mine apears to be the same way as yours. but i cant rememebr what year it is. im actauly thinking it was a 88 just like yours but i cant eb sure. one of my tranys is an 84 and hte other is an 88. but i have a 700R4 and a 2004R and i dont remember witch is witch. if nothing else just make sure you can return it if its not the right one and seap it for the other years.

07-07-2004, 06:57 PM
yeah thats what im gonna have to do...did you read my previous post?
68chevelle
07-07-2004, 07:03 PM
umm no i was posting when you posted that so i didnt see it. umm, who said that. well, it could posibly happen, kinda. say your converters true stall(the speed it does stall with your applicastion) is 2grand. and your crusing down the street in watever gear so that your engine is running at 1900-2000RPM's, your car will actualy start movie before the stall RPM, then your converter will be slipping more than intendid and can create extra heat that COULD burn up the tranny, but if you dont drive right on the stall speed or below then your fine, you might not be able to use the overdrive hear unless your crusing at like 65 and up to be able to stay away from the stall speed. but remember what i said, that converter will stall sooner with yoru engine so if you were to drive at 2500RPMs you would probably be fine, but that would be like 65MPH in yoru car i think. so like i said just dont use it until your on the highways or something and your good to go.

alright cool...now i just have to find out the damn splines lol...is there anyone you can ask? cause i dont know anyone that could help me out...
68chevelle
07-07-2004, 07:05 PM
i cant wait until i get my overdrive in cuz the other day i put some exhaust on my friend 90 integra and we took if for a drive and i was folowing him and we went around this corner and as soon as we did he takesoff as fast as he can and i had to get to like 30 before i could get on it and i still spun the tires so i had to back out of it, and then i took me like half a mile to catch him but i went by him at about 120 and it was pushing like 4900RPMS. i ran out of gear, i cant wait till i can do like 150+.

lol. not totaly. i had to go reload for a shoot that im about to leave for. i couldnt find anything online. your best bet would probably be to call some tranny shop and ask then or like i said bowtie overdrives. or wait for someone else to see if they know.
