Rusted floor, can it be fixed?

I removed the driver seat tonight to fix an annoying wobble when i discovered the wobble was caused by rust. The front left bracket and the rear left brackets were bolted to a completly rusted section of the floor, i can see all the way through to the ground. The size of the hole is about 1.5ft square. Can i weld in some sheet metal and then brace it somehow? I was thinking i could weld somethin in, the drill new holes for the brackets to bolt onto. Sound good?

You can buy new floor sections they are not that much. OR you could just cut your own sheetmetal piece and weld it in. Either way I would suggest welding in some sub-frame connectors when you done. They run right under the seats and help stiffen up that whole floor pan.

Yeah you can weld in a patch, me and my brother did it on his '78 bronco. make SURE you cut out ALL of the rust and half rusted parts, you have to weld to a solid piece of metal!!! Welding it to a half rusted part will just leave you with a weak patch that will probably break off. After you are done, paint any surface rust anywhere else on the floor with POR-15 rust paint. Its meant to be applied directly to rust. Its expensive for a reason, it WORKS. This aint no Rustoleum spray paint.

$100 bucks a gallon. You probably wont need more than a pint or a quart depending on how much of the floor you paint. I painted an entire '78 bronco frame with 3 pints.

where can i buy new floor sections from, and if i went the other route where would could i find the sheet metal? I.E....what type pf buisness, or specialty shop?

You can get sheet metal at your local lowes/home depot, for a price. You'll probably pay around $10-$20 for a 2'x2' piece. I get all my metal from my local metal recycler. They have a warehouse filled with recycled metal. Its quite a bit cheaper there, but it still ain't cheap. Steel has gotten very expensive...

I doubt you need all of it, maybe some places have just a front/drivers side piece. Mustangs unlimited also has a passenger side version of that.

A friend of mine that i work with says he can get me sheet metal for free from his neighbor. I can not weld, but i do have a pop rivet gun! SO i think i can just rivet the sheet metal to the bottom after i cut all of the rotted metal off from the car. does this sound about right?

Hmmm... You need to make it seal otherwise you'll have water splashing in.. and therefore more rust and a wet car. I suppose you can rivet it and get some epoxy(I use POR epoxy) and fill all the holes.

riveting is a real halfass way to do it imho....
