so, what do people think about the scion xB...i test drove both the standard and the auto, about 3-4 times each, and like the auto much better, the clutch and shifter (mainly the gaits) suck dogs...anyway, i never liked it, but it kinda grew on me, esp after seeing some nice aftermarket mods...plus it gets awesome gas mileage, just for a daily driver, and has TONS of room, no lie...i saw a 6'2" guy test driving one...lots of head room, and passenger(s) room...only 108hp (or donkey power i should call it...maybe there really is a hamster running on a wheel under the hood :) ) though, and the fixed pricing kinda sucks, but i guess u save the hassle/stress of going to different dealers and the whole bargaining crap...i don't think i will be buying one now b/c of money, but it is definitely a contender, some day, for a daily driver, to keep me occupied until i get the G35...voice some opinions people!!!!!! Nissan is coming out with the "Cube"...don't know if I like it so much though...

get the tC, otherwise, don't bother. scion are ugly cars. they intended to sell it to underprivileged college kids, but ironically, most consumers as I noticed are middle-aged men with funky hair; and likes to speed.

boooooooo...i think looks depend on the individual, and i don't think the xB is ugly. i think they are different, and unique, but wouldn't say ugly--strange, yes...nevertheless, i believe the tC is kind of a mainstream car, with 'nothing new' styling, but may be a good value...i haven't driven one...but the value of the xB is awesome!!

lol, good choice. but i think many will agree, it's cardboard box on wheels. even the mini cooper has more curves and aerodynamics than xB. :)

in terms of uniqueness and out of the ordinary, I can recommend many other affordable vehicles with class.

I will not buy any car where the prices are fixed like that. Its collusion in its application. Doing that is going to hurt their sales.

The xB looks like one of those box vans or something. A friend of mine thinks they're sweet; but I can't stand the look of them, or the xA counterpart. The tC looks decent, but 105 HP isn't something to brag about.

Scion.com claims 160hp in the TC. That is what you were refering to right?

A civic coupe's 115 hp isn't bragable either. (i picked the civic coupe because that is what the TC reminds me of)

Civic coupe 2588 lbs
TC 2970

how does the fix pricing suck? thats the best part about scion.. its no hassle no markup because its a scion.. you can get it for the cheapest price possible.. i dont see how its a bad thing.. and the tc has 160hp now 108 its pretty fast.. i went to test drive one already.. i drove the 5 spd.. the engine is so smooth.. but trunk space is lacking.. my friends in the back seats said there was lots of room.. but yea.. the onyl scion i would get is the tC

Would have bought a nice looking basic Xb instead of fwd 4 cyl Highlander if Xb was longer by 2-3 feet with corresponding bigger engine. Don't like the center gages though.

the xb is real ugly. my girlfreinds dad test drove it and said its really underpowered. i also cant imagine how annoying having the instrument cluster in the middle like that, plus its all compressed into a little circle. i dunno its weird, its ugly and its an import..sooooo no. the tc looks alright tho

I'm sick of everybody baggin' on the xb and the Element. I would never buy one, but i understand and apreciate thier existance. They pick something and run with it. Too many cars on the road today are just a collection of lines, angles, and curves with no theme or consistancy to them. Cars today have no menaing or purpose, no intent comunicated through thier design.
A short list of examples:
Mercedes CLK
Mazda Tribute
Crown VIc
Paseo
Tundra and Tacoma
New Maxima
New Galant
and MANY MANY more...

A few with purpose and intent:
New Beetle/Old Beetle
69 Mustang Fastback
Ram
Supra
98 Eclipse
XB!/Element
Wrangler
Hummer H1
59 Caddy Eldorado (Most classics)
Miata
Porsche/Ferrari/Lambo/exotics (wihtout the trivial issues of comfort and cargo space, passionate design is easy)

Just because a car has a passionate and clean design dosen't mean that you like it. That depends on if it speaks to your style. The XB will not speak to many peoples style, but at least its a real design, and not a clone built to look like something you want.
I respect the styling of the XB more than any corvette since the stingray. I like the vette more than teh XB, but i dont respect it. The vette is more my style, and im far more likely to own one. But the vette is a collection of stolen lines and basic, uninspired design. The corvette conveys nothing that no other sports car does. Its pretty, but only by default, only because its low, wide, and fast. Any design would look good, and so it does. But it does it without trying, without passion, without inspiration, without pushing boundaries. It conforms to its platform, unlike , say, the 93-96 supra, which offered design elements that stand still today as modern and forward thinking. It was inspired, and pushed far beyond its platform. The supra is gorgeous because its designers were brilliant, the vette is pretty because they couldn't mess it up as long as they tried NOT to be original. The XB is like the supra, It pushes beyond its platform. It has an idea, a feeling to convey, and it sticks to it. It is consistant to itself, everything flows and works with everything else.
I would never own one, but i respect it for being truly and purely itself.

The tC was not meant to compete with the civic coupe, it was actually aimed at the RSX.

I dont get you people, how can you compare the Element with the xB? The Element is not even close to the boxiness of the xB. And the roomers of the Cube and Honda redesigning the Element to be like the xB is outrageous. In my opinion, Toyota and Nissan should make their models more like the Element.

If they really want their boxes to catch on, try adding AWD and please, add more hp. Also they could and bigger wheels and spoilers.I know they want to keep it cheep, but you can have higher cost trims.

The xA is really just the hatchback version of the Echo, if you didnt notice.

And, the crappy centre gauge on Toyotas are disgusting! (prius, xB, xA, echo(i mita missed some))

I dont think the xB is really all that bad looking, but its not my style by any means. I sat in one at a car show and the overall build quality really suprised me. The side windshield glass was the thinnest Ive ever seen on a car, same thing with the door in general. I find it kinda ironic that Toyota is marketing such a fragile feeling car to young drivers. The TC looks much better and statistically (i havent been in one yet) seems to be a much better car.
