Someone please help a feller out here. MY 94 Z28 has been driveing me CRAZY for the past few months. It will not shift into Overdrive, but this isnt my only problem with it. It also flutters REALLY bad when i push the gas pedal. If i start out slow its ok, but when i tend to push the gas down about half way the car flutters and stutters and doesnt want to go.
Ive recently changed all the spark plugs, EGR valve, fuel filter, gave it an oil change and the transmission fluid is fine. If any one knows anything please help me out.

Wires, and/or Coils may need changing as well. My car had similar problems, turned out to be misfire, after doing wires and plugs, had to move on to coils. Oh, wait, the Z doesn't have coils, well, whatever you have to cause the spark, that might be bad.

So if i changed the wires that would possibly stop the fluttering? Ill have to make a quick trip to autozone or napa tomorrow.
Any advice on the Overdrive problem?

I did take the car and have it put on a computer and the problems that came up was a bad EGR valve and a bad Speed Sensor. Ive changed the EGR valve but not the speed sensor yet.
How exactly do u check the codes? is that were you get a coat hanger or sumpin and stick it in that thing under the steering wheel? lol

Have you changed the cap & rotor (and possibly the distributor)? We are going completly through mine as right now. Seemed to run fine, just a slight miss, doggy. One look at the rotor, don't know how it was running. 100K prox miles.

a coat hanger is way too big. Try a paper clip or a jump wire. you put one end in the top right spot and the other in the slot immediately to the left of that one. turn the key on, but don't start the car. It will flash codes at you if there's a problem. I've gotten REALLY good at this procedure lately :)

NO NO NO NO not on a fourth gen, please dont do that. i think that 93 camaros were still OBDI cars and you could use a paperclip to use the flasher system to check codes, but after that the started using a class 2 data line and if you try to jump it youll most likely short something out. use a Tech 2 at the dealership to have the codes scanned. however, i will say its very likely that the speed sensor is causing some driveability problems. it could be engaging the ABS on that wheel, causing the flutter problem. its a shot in the dark, but its a possiblity. although i maintiain its probly the opti crap ignition system.

I did try the paper clip thing Friday afternoon to check for codes but nothing flashed it just seemed like the fans were kicking on. Thanks for the warning 89 Iroc but it was a lil to late, i dont THINK i shorted any thing out. But im going to check out some of these problems you guys have mentioned and ill give ya an update in a few days.

I know its been awhile guys, but ive been busy goin to car shows and other stuff. Ive replaced my spark plug wires and spark plugs. Ive fixed the overdrive problem by putting in a new solidonoid in the transmission and it shifts fine. BUt i stillget the fluttering but now its only when i stop at a stop light, when im holding the brake, my tac seems to start jumping and the engine slightly revs and when im pulling out i have to go really slow untill a certain speed or it will miss on me. Can someone help me out?

now granted i dont know alot or anything about cars but ill give my two cents...i own a 91 and seem to have the same problem about stoping and it feels like your car is kinda still wanting to pull and ur rpms go up a lil well when this happens to me about 50 % of the time i get a code 22 i belive well i know its a tps whatever code that is (throttle position sensor) this could be your problem as well i have not changed mine yet but i also have that stutter problem during acel. some times but i have a 91 and a tbi so ur problem could be totally diff. just tought id try and give u my opinion what it could be the part i speak of for my car only costs 20.99 at advance auto so it could be a cheap fix!!

I had the same problem with my 94 Z28, so I bought a bottle of injector cleaner that you add after you fill your gas tank, and I haven't had a problem since.
