Hey I know its real cheesy but i love the look of the e46 m3 but being a 17 year old kid the money isnt there. I have found m3-look-alike kits but what is the true difference between the m3 and e46 3 series in dimensions.( I know the hp and also suspension) I want to know if the m3 is wider, if the fenders are flared more if it is longer or the same as a 3 series but with a different front and rear bumper. At evosport.com they have a kit that replaces everything to look exactly like an m3 but if you just need to roll the fenders and graph the grills in that is cheaper than buying the 1200 dollars worth of new front fenders. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Go to bavarian auto, get an MTechnic kit, makes your 3 look like an ///M.

The M3 looks a good deal wider. However the difference is actually only 1.5 inches.
None of the dimensions are that different, yet almost every body panel is different including bumper and front spoiler, hood, fenders, quarter panels, rear apron, side skirts. I can't think of anything different about the doors, the roof or the trunk lid but my wife has a 325iT so I can't make a comparison of those panels to my M.
The real cost of M'ing a 3series is not in the body panels. Those are actually fairly cheap even with the painting. The wheels and tires are what will kill you. 18" M-style wheels are going to run you $2 grand + and the tires will be another grand. I got exceptionally good wear out of my tires and they need to be replaced now at 17,000 miles with one two day driving school.
The best modification any BMW driver can make is to upgrade their car's weakest component...the driver. If 17 year-olds are allowed, pay the local BMW club $400 and go to one their two day driving schools. If not, save up $400 and go when you turn 18. You won't regret it and your taste in upgrades will certainly change.

Been looking myself at M3 style wheels and most suprising is that Ebay is the best place to get M3 wheels from, I found a set on there for 900GBP fully balanced and with tyres fitted.
Bargin! :)
