What's your opinion? I don't mean your favorite right now- best of all time, all genres considered. I'm tempted to say Pink Floyd 'The Wall', but there are so many potential winners...tough one.

So hard to pick one "best album ever". Some of the music that most deifnately deserves a nomination was never put any kind of recording medium until the original writers were long gone, such as Beethovens Fifth. But as far as albums in modern times, some are worthy simply for the talent possessed like Allessandro Safina's self titled, or Josh Groban's "Closer". Howie Day is also a very talented songwriter/performer. Then there are some that are worthy for nominations because of their impact on society, both then and now. Elvis, The Beatles, Hendrix, all helped change the face of music. Some of these nominations make me sad. When I think best album of all time, Metallica, while a very enjoyable band, is not the first thing to come to mind. Even AC/DC whom I will always worship as gods of rock are not worthy of best ever. And I definately wouldn't nominate Linkin Park, NFG, Alice Cooper or Pink Floyd. I think "The Wall" falls under the "I found the hype, but where's the substance" column. Anyhow, I guess that was a really long post just to say that I don't think I could ever pick just one. :)

Everything in the above post is ONLY MY OPINION. It is also entirely correct. Always. Forever.

I'm gonna have to agree with Dayna, Physical Graffiti is by far Zeppelin's greatest advancement in their music. As for greatest album ever, impossible to choose.

I think "The Wall" falls under the "I found the hype, but where's the substance" column.[/B]

Buy the DVD (or rent it) and watch it with the voice over on.

The Wall is actualy a back lash against the hype and over comercialisation that began in the late 60s and that almost smothered Pink Floyd at the peak of thier popularity.

Its somewhat Ironic however that it then turned into thier most famous work.

I personaly would rate it as the "best album".

But then how do you rate all the thousands of pieces of music that have been complied on some form of recording media over the past hundered or so years.
We can each encompass such a small part of it that I don't think its possible, and any poll will only expose what is the most popular at the time. It would be a poor indication of the musical quality of the album, and only show which had the better marketing stratergy and most money spent on its promotion.
Another poll taken 12mnths later would deliver a differnt album (something that shouldnt happen, if the orginal poll was correct), and it would only serve to demonstrate the increasing levels of consumer guliblity and weakness, while reinforcing the strength of marketing and the profit over ethics ideal of the recording industry.

Want an example?
Note how many people voted for Linkin Park :disappoin :disappoin

Nyana and In Search Of Sunrise 2 and 3 - Tiesto

What the fuck is the point of this thread? We all know what kind of music we like, and I'm sorry - but face the fact than no one else gives a fuck. Unless they like the same music, in which case they are likely to agree and the conversaton terminates.
