Ca18det??

I read in a magazine that there is a drifter that uses this engine (can't remember the name though). I also read on here that the old JDM 240's used this engine. Does anyone have information on the CA18DET? I've been searching around and have not been able to find out anything other than what I have just said. I was wondering if this engine is easy to find or if it is even in existence here in the states. If it is available how much would one cost and how easy would it be to swap it into a 89-94 240. If someone could please set me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

prolly around a grand for the engine, another grand to swap it in.

around 170hp (not sure of exact number). good gas mileage. decent speed (mid-low 15s).

drops right in.

It's an easy alternative to the SR.

it's the stock engine over here in europe, all s13 (we only got the hatchback though) are pre-equipped with CA18DET, so much sweeter than sr20 ;)

CA = pure iron block and high rev loveness

But, its old as crap. And if something screws up, ive heard that its very hard to find parts for them. I was considering one in the past, but nahh...SR!

Well, the CA18DE is in the Pulsar and a bunch of other crap here, so parts are not too bad.

A CA is on my eventual list of things to get, after suspension and brakes are done.

From personal experience...

ca18de are PISS SLOW, responsive but they get walked on by most cars[eg camry's]..

ca18det in factory stock form give an alright amount of power through gears with the engine responding well too high rev's. I find the engine particularly responsive when slowing down quickly then going fast again[cornering, etc]...

IMO, CAs are a sweet "budget" drift motor. Iron block and no valve float till 9000+ rpm (although its not recommended...). All it needs is a good rebuild and a T28 and there you go. A basic CA swap can be had for less than $3500 installed with a FMIC up here.

I highly advise looking to NICO forums' CA section for info, they know their stuff.

High Preformance Imports is doing a build up of a CA powered Silvia. (if you can find it its an awsome magizine)

i think Koguchi Power used a CA18 but now they use an SR

Are aftermarket parts easy to come by for the CA, and also is it reasonable to upgrade past the t28, or is it just extra money with less payoff. Thats my last question I promise.
