This is my first post, been reading the forum for a while. I have a 2.5 le (automatic) What's the best way of accelerating? If I floor it it burns out for like 20 feet, If I start out slow enough to not burn out it shifts into second making a quick start difficult. Then I'm faced with the next issue which is what is the best way to make the car shift? Should I redline it (it will always shift by 6.5) If I take my foot of the accelerator at a shift point, and it will shift and then i can gun it, but this strikes me as something that would chew up the tranny. In otherwords how do I win a race without leaving my front tires at the light.

Just don't floor it at first. Try practicing on flooring it but at the right pace. Don't just slam it to the floor, but floor it over 1-3 seconds of time. It will take a little practice but you'll know when you feel it. And yeah, just floor it the whole time that you're trying to accelerate.

thanks a lot for the help, so it is harmful to jam the accelerator in order to switch gears faster ?

Get Manual... You'll Have much better control over accelerating.

thanks, i am aware of the benefits of a manual transmission, but settled for the automatic just because it was available and cheaper.

Shouldn't be TOO expensive. You should ask www.jgycustoms.com for an estimate. They are THE SR20 experts.

They're in Virginia somewhere. But you can get some info on it anyway if you're not close by.
