Ok I bought a 2002 dodge durango 5.7 I think. Anyway I have had it for about 5 months now and it has been wonderful except the weak a/c but I don't use it that often anyway. About a month ago I noticed that it sounded like I was starting off in a high gear (very beefy sounding) this came and went never repeating the same time nor place. This morning I got up and it was DEAD!! I thought maybe I left the lights on (doughtfull only drove it in the morning)or maybe my husband turned on a overhead light agian doughtful drove only in the am. I hooked it up to a battery charger for about 20 mins. It fired up BUT wouldn't stay running without my foot on the gas pedal. That has been 2 hrs ago and I have been surfing the net for the problem. One suggestion was to turn the key three times on to get a code which was PdoNe. But to my surprise it started up it flucuated at first then idled around 1. I turned it on several times moved the truck forward and backward and turned it off. When I did this I noticed that there was a staticy sound kind of like the radio off a station but very low sounding. The radio is off by the way. I was wondering if anyone had an idea what this all could be. thanks mindy

I had a similar problem and had to reset the PCM. When the battery dies, and even after a "jump", it will idle poorly and run poorly until the PCM is reset. Even if you put a new battery in it, you will have to reset the PCM.

Here is how you reset the PCM.

Open the hood and disconnect the battery (-) negative side. With the cable disconnected, get back in the D and turn the ignition key forward to the start position and hold it for 15 seconds. Release the ignition, hook up the battery and you should be good to go.

The A/C problem and the battery problem are different. Have the battery / charging system tested and codes read at auto zone (free).
Then get the A/C checked out at a good shop probably needs recharge.
Don't put off the A/C because you don't use it , it also runs in defrost/defog to provide dry air to the window, also the "beefy sound" was probably tha a/c running. The new R134 systems are all alot louder than the old R11 systems. Good Luck.

Thanks you guys. I thought that the A/C might need recharged but after listening to others I figured its whimpiness was just because of the dodge. It does cool down but takes a little while but never really blows super cold like I have had in the past. The D seems to be running fine now. So far no problems. The small flucuation in the idle is gone. Husband took it out for a long drive and the static sound and weird idle is no longer. Just a little leary about it doing it again in the middle of now where. Which is where I live. We don't have an auto zone closes thing is Checker. Thanks mindy

I have a 2003. My ac is also weak. A friend put two cans of 134a in and now it is blowing vapor from the back side of the compressor. Any ideas? Compessor also shut off and on about every 3-5 seconds. Did this before the first can of 134a. Again, any ideas before I take it to a shop?

OK just an update. Coming home just outside of a small town my D broke down. I was tring to get up to highway speeds all of a sudden the rpms jumped to around 5 then the engine quit. Waited 2 hrs for a tow into another small town. Thanks god that was were I was going and it happend in the only place you get cell service for 30 miles. I did the turn on/off thing three times and got code P doNe. Later they found it was a coil and wire that need replaced. Cost 200 for repairs and 140 for the tow....thanks mindy

You're having some bad luck. AC should be cold, but it'll take extra time over older R-12 systems.

Good luck,

Something's fucked when the normal vent fan is cooler than the A/C...
