need help on a decision..

ok heres the deal.. its time of another set of mods to my car. i was orginally just going to get a manual boost controller (mbc) and boost up my car to 11psi for now then get a 255intank and then a chip and boost it up to 15psi..
ok now my friend is selling me a upgrade for my turbo, basically its a compressor housing and compressor wheel from a turbo t-bird, their wheels and housing is bigger then my stock ihi rb6 vf11 so its like a hy-brid turbo. basically 8psi on the hybrid is equlivant to 11psi on my ihi setup, 10psi on the hybrid is like 17psi on my setup.. see the difference.. way better hp gains.

ok here is the problem, my motor has 158,000 on it.. its a old car and old motor, i worring about boosting too hi and blowing my motor and there goes my ride..also i dont want to spend too much $ on this car b/c i really want a dsm, but its tempting to do mods to this car b/c it takes well to it, but at best i will not see a better time slip then a hi 13's pass.. also the turbo setup will set me back $300 the mbc and chip and pump is about $250.. but for now was only gona spend $43 on the mbc..

so what do you people suggest, save my $ and jsut get the mbc and boost 11psi or spend the cash and get the turbo? i know ill have fun with the turbo and later get the mbc and boost 11psi.. but i dont know if my motor is up for it? what would you people do.. keep in my i can afford to blow the motor b/c i wont have a car..

If you don't plan on keeping the car and really just want a DSM to toy with, I don't see the point of spending any money on this car. Save it for the car you want to have fun with. After I totaled my GTC and got the Vision I don’t spent any money on the Vision unless I have to. I have been saving my money for my new GTC.

If you really have the need for more power get the MBC and run a little more boost, but don't waste money on a new turbo especially if you're worried about blowing the engine. Running 15 PSI is a lot and you had better have the fuel, engine management, and intercooler to support that or you can kiss the engine goodbye. All those cost money.

My suggestion; save the money for your DSM. :naughty:

see the problem is i dont know when ill get the dsm in a yr or 2 yrs form now its not right away.. btw this block can take 17psi stock, cast iron block and forged pistons 8.7:1 comp. i have 330cc injectors and i was gona upgrade the fuel pump.. but you have good points thanks.. keep them comming.

Oh, I wasn't questioning the strength of the engine. I was more concerned about detonation or running lean. No amount of forged internals will save you from those.

Well, if it will be a good two years before you can get your DSM I would do the MBC but I still wouldn't buy the turbo since you'll at least need an intercooler. You really should run an intercooler after about 10PSI. Also, look at what cheap things you can do to upgrade the exhaust. Turbos hate backpressure and a nice 3" mandrel bent exhaust will do wonders. It also can cause you to run lean. Also, find out if there is anything you can do on the intake side. Ignition is always a good idea as well.

I'm just trying to think of some cheap ways to get some more power since I still don't think you should spend much on the car unless you plan on keeping it.

how about an aquamist injection? could decrease the risk of engine blow-ups, afaik

I'd do the MBC (as they're extremely cheap) and save the rest of your money for the DSM. Then go all out on the DSM and start running high 11s.

i would go with polygon on this one...i would just buy the MBC and save up for the DSM...because DSM are so fun to mess around with.

Yeah, just save your money wherever possible for the car you want. Get the DSM and go wild on it.

No sense in delaying getting the DSM by buying parts for the Probe, also you may blow the Probe by modding and racing it then you're out the hole for parts to fix it. Further delaying you from getting the DSM.

Do what all us do with our beaters, drive it normally... untill you can afford beat the shit outta the race car.

Like everyone said save your money. Also have you considered selling the probe now? DSM's are cheap, im sure you could buy one with the money you would make. And if not ask the folks for the rest you would need... wouldnt be much.

i have a intercooler, a side mount.. its pretty good.. i also have exhaust but not a big enuff one lolz.. yea i think im just gona get a mbc. and save for my dsm.. man its just soo tempting to mod this car becuase its soo easy to make hp from a turbo car.. man i was driving the car today, the turbo pulls strong then hits the 8psi limit and stops so i really need the mbc the car will feel alot faster and that should be good for now.. thanks for all the help..

i'd say save as much as you can. and if you must put some money into the car, take a performance driving school. that upgrade will stay with you no matter what you drive.

why not just look into dsm's a bit earlier than you wanted to?

i can look into it right now b/c i need a good paying job, my own insurance, and some more $ to buy a gsx/tsi.. thats why.. i should look into the driving school tho

I agree, i did that myself. I had my little Dodge Colt (dead for 2 years now :crying: ) as a daily driver and the boat (as seen below) was the weekend car cuz it had the power and the room to go camping or cruising.

The boat's everything for me now, but there's nothing wrong with 2 cars. I know lots of guys that drive one in the winter and one in the summer, that saves their insurance and cuts down on maintenance costs via kilometers driven.

proboost mbc...$20 shipped do a search on yahoo for their website. With 158k, boosting that high might get expensive. A tuneup might be necessary, colder plugs, race gas, and all the other fun stuff that comes along with monitoring/preventing knock. If you are going that high with boost, you could/should look into propane or alky injection, and some type(don't know what is available for your specific car) of management or logging system to tune your A/F. Also aren't your injectors too small for that much boost? I would think those would need to be replaced. My suggestion is buy the boost controller, squeeze some more power out with that, but then wait and save so you can get the car you really want...you'll be happier with that! But to each his own...hoped that helped somehow.

ill have no problem boosting 10psi, my 330cc injectors is more then enough for 10psi and i have copper plugs gapped to .35, on the probe forums people make over 220whp on the stock turbo and stock injectors, the only thing i might need when i boost it to 15psi is a 255 intank and a chip that remaps my ecu for higher boost.. the chip is cheap tho $80..
