Boost Up, What's going on?

I just bought a 2004 WRX wagon brand new on 7/2. (Big saving since 2005 models has been on market).

I have an 90 Eagle talon AWD Turboand reday to get rid of it.

I was looking for the boost that we can run safely without fuel management modification. I looked saveral threads, but what's going on?
Why do you guys talk about upgrading turbo or intercooler before boost up? or even taking about stock mitsubishi turbo can't TAKE 17psi???

My understanding was Turbo CREATES boost, doen't take boost. 1st genaration Talon has TD04 turbo as stock and stock boost is 10psi. We can run 15psi with aftermarket intake and exhaust without fuel management modification(that's how I run my Talon currently). With fuel management modification you can run 20+psi on stock turbo on Talon.

Anyway, what's going on with WRX Boost up? Is is because of the compression ratio? Talosn has 8.5:1. I belive wrx is 8.0:1.
What's the real safe boost we can run on WRX without fuel modification? I'm ready to buy after maket intake and exhaust and remove my talon's boost controller and install on my new wrx.

Boost is measured in PSI, it's a pressure reading, so when we talk about upgrading parts it's so that they will be able to take the additional pressure that increased boost creates.
If a part can only withstand a certain pressure and you increase the pressure beyond that margin, you're asking for a catastrophic failure.

A turbo creates boost, boost = pressure, so the turbo must withstand the increased pressure.

BTW, if you've only just got the WRX, why are you so enthusiastic on voiding the factory warranty.

So, what's the max boost we can run safely without fuel management modification? Nobady knows?

I don't care about the very short useless factory warrenty. Unlike Mitsubishi (No offense), Subaru is very reliable. Long time ago, I had 90 Loyale with 280,000 miles on it, and it was running good. I love Subaru, and I just can't Stand that My Talon is faster than New WRX. After little modification, I bet WRX can be faster easily.

So far, I love WRX. It's blue, has enough room for single guy like me, cool looking(I love the hood scoop). It's time to get rid of Talon for me.

BTW, TD05 is stock on 5 speed Talon, and TD04 is stock on Automatic Talon.

highest boost ive heard for it stock is 17.5psi before #3 cyclinder explodes. I run 16psi with my exhaust cut back to the downpipe. works great and with my other mods its good for 13.2 - 13.5 consistantly no problem.
