96 lumina no start/run

After shutting off my lumina it wouldn't restart. No crank. The radio / accessories shut off when the key is turned to start, but nothing else happens. I checked, and there is voltage to the starter, but not the solenoid. You can jump across the starter and the car will start and run for about 1 second. I replaced the neutral safety switch and ignition switch. Still no dice. When I check the trouble codes the only code I get is for a transmission solenoid that I knew was acting up. I cleared the codes and still nothing. Where next??

what year be this lumina? I would start by checking that the little chip in the key is still intact, and that both contacts on it are clean. If the chip isn't making contact, the key will still turn, but the car may not start.

Check all of the grounds that are connected to the engine block.
Just follow the negative battery cable and see where is leads to, it may go to the frame then the engine but still make sure all contarts are free of oxidation and in good condition.

Hope this helps

Now i went and replaced the battery and checked all the hook ups and everything. I had a frind tell me i might have seized my engine, but when u sieze the egine wouldnt it make a noise of some type, now i think its the starter but i was seeing if newone else has had this happen to them.

my 1990 lumina, just one morning would not start. Batt was good, and all i got was a click. Friend said to get a hammer and tap on the started, so i did, and it started. Bad spot on the inside of the starter. Replaced it, all is well. Later on sold car, and have since upgraded myself to a 2001 Lumina. Good luck.

If you're replacing the starter with an aftermarket, make sure to use the shim if there is one. When you hear cars grinding the starter when starting, it's usually becasue they thought it was ok to omit the shim when replaceing the starter.

Another thing to one of the people that dont get anything when they turn the key... check the coil wire and make sure its connected good.
