Hello, I am a recent owner (and first time driver) of a 944.
There are a few basics to trading in my domestic for a better built transportation machine that I should know. First of which is what its called....
How do you pronounce "Porsche"........ I hate to look stupid when I am talking about something that that interests me.
A) poor-shish
OR
B) Poor-sha
I've asked around and have not gotten a definitive answer. Someone said "it all depends who your talking to" so I thought you seasoned drivers might be able to shed some light........
I dont think I inserted/know the code to actually make this an interactive poll, I'll learn and edit to fix this soon. Seeing as you guys helped fix my car, possibly someone can tell me how to fix this. Then possibly one of you can come and show me how to cut the grass, change a diaper, paint a house........
Thanks!
Kurt

It does somewhat vary depending on who you are talking to.
The common way it is pronounced in North America and the UK by enthusiasts is "Por-sha", but this is not necessarily correct. There are a few subtleties to the "sha" sound, for instance, there is an ever so slight Y sound, a "shyah".
Just whatever you do, don't say "Porsh".

nine one one =911
nine four four =944
I used to get looked at funny at porsche club events when I would call my car a nine four four. It was to the point where it was being joked about.
Until....We were at the PCA Club racing event in Sebring and Derek Bell was the Speaker at the sat night banquet. He was talking about this old days and i noticed he mentioned a nine one seven. Not a nine seventeen.

I have always said Nine Eleven, Nine Twenty-Four, Nine Fourty-Four, Nine Twenty-Eight, Nine Sixty-Eight, Nine Sixty-Four, Nine Eighty-Six, Nine Fourteen, Three Fifty-Six etc
I usually refer to street models this way, with the exception of the Nine Nine Three, Nine Nine Six and now the Nine Nine Seven, because I think Nine Ninety sounds kind of silly.
OTOH, I have always referred to the racing models the other way, chiefly because the real Porsche prototype racing era kicked off with cars such as the Nine Oh Four, Nine Oh Six, and Nine Oh Eight. Nine One Seven / Thirty, Nine Five Six, Nine Six Two... I guess I'm just funny like that.
I think if you want to get hardass High Porsche about it, and what to call them all Nine One One, Nine One Seven, etc, you should prefix it with "Type". :icon16:
