EGR cleaning

Is it OK to take out the EGR valve on my Z34 and clean it, then put it back without damaging it, or should I just get a new one? Will that help with rough idle and stalling?

its ok to take i toff and clean it i have a 98 lumina sedan and ive taken lots of parts off and it runs great i blocked my EGR after that and it runds even better now. the service engine soon light is on but dont do anything to the car by being on.
