6 Speed trannys

Another question, I need a tranny and opted for a six speed, how much power can the six speed in an S15 handle and whats the average price, or the six in the 350Z, I think this will be very costly and hard to find since the car is new, I wanted to go with the T56 but after two months of pricing, and also re checking, I found it to be a very costly and is a robust transmission, I am about 45% sure it will fit. These odds are not very good on an item that costs well over a grand, and doesn't come with a refund gurantee. I could use a 5speed but prefer six like my firebird, Going at 120mph and still at 2500RPM.

Good:- atleast I know for sure it will fit,
Bad:- 1000-1300 is about tyhe same price as a newly rebuilt T56.
I might try and stop being picky but, have you ever wanted the more expensive option so bad, I don't know what my facination is with 6sp's.
Anyway, I can formate any tranny to mount to the SHO, I just need a tranny that fits you know. Even if it is a honda S2k, It doesn't matter, you just have to know what to do to make it work. What about the 350Z tranny, how do they hold up to high hp applications, and whats the usual running price?

It's not goig to be easy to find a rwd tranny from another manufacturer that will bolt right up to a SHO motor. Do you have the 8 cyl or the 6 cyl motor? You might be able to use the tranny off of a mustang if it's the 8 cyl. The problem is that the bell housing wont match your motor with most transmissions and it wont fit. So it's not a question of what tranny can hold a lot of power, it's what will fit. You know you can get a SR20det motor for like $1600 with a transmission and save yourself a lot of hassle. It's also easy to get mods and support.

oh an
SR20-200hp
inline 4, 2 literes displacement
versus
3.0 Yamaha v6 3.0 liters displacement
downrated to 220hp, cam change and computer retune=300hp
im sorry but the yamaha wins this argument

I guess that means a little more coming from a sr20 fan. You really think the sho motor is better?

First off 817, to make a Rwd tranny work on a SHO motor you need an aerostar bell housing and a 1/4 inch adapter plate. The aerostar bellhousing fits the v6 (only) bolt pattern, don't know if there is another RWD car that has the same patter as the V8, secondly, the V8 SHO was made by ford, and is crappy, there was a lawsuit filled cuz at around 60K the timing belt would snap causing tons of damage to the engine. The V6 = 220hp (De-tuned) the V8 = 235hp. The fastest SHO is the 94MTX then the V8 then the 90. The adapter plate is to mate the bell housing to the tranny, and also since most who do RWD conversion w/ SHO motors use the T-5 tranny out of a mustang, it has to be a 1/4 inch since the input shatft of the T-5 is longer than the M4LD tranny for the Aerostar. (shotimes.com, go to "using sho engine with other transmissions.) That takes care of fitment.
I am not downing the SR, I have heard of many putting out well bove 400HP, but I had two SHO engines, one in the car, and another in my garage. Secondly, I have reved my car all the way up to 8000RPM and this engine sounds so tight, and lastly, there was a guy who hit low 11s with a supercharged SHO, and another has a SHO putting 415hp to the wheels. Imagine then what a newly rebuilt and well balanced and machined SHO engine will be capable off, especially with most of the FORD parts gone or upgraded. I am in the process of installing one, then when I am done, I'll send the other to the machine shop. Some time next year.

Oh, they have a rebuild kit good for around 280-300hp Naturally aspirated.

sounds like the mustang tranny will be your best bet. I know that they can handle quite a bit of power, so you should be fine. It sounds like that sho motor is pretty bad ass. So if you got the time and the skilz to make it work, then more power to ya.

The T-5 stang tranny would be easier and cheaper, I had wanted a
T-56 so bad, didn't want to mount a T-5 then later have to swap to a T56 and go through again modifying again for the T-56. But you know, since I have plans of buying another S14, I think I will go for the T-5, I had a chance of getting it and I let it slip, but this time I think I will just focus on finishing the project instead of the being petty.
You know, this is what has also being slowing me down, I have a J30 Lsd, and was being too petty cuz I wanted a 300TT or a Q45 LSD, I'll just use what I got from now on, if I did this at the begining I might be a little farther than I am now. My brothe told me "beggers can't be choosers", I think he is right.
