can't break the slump

I have had a real hard time sitting down and getting any work done recently. Modeling used to be an outlet for me to relax, and I just cant relax. seems like every day off its someone's birthday or some other event comes up. then when I do get some piece and quiet I'm not into it. And -last time I broke out the S14 my apartment complex decided to reshingle the roof and the workers were pounding so hard on the roof I was crawling in my skin. :banghead: then I decided to go outside and do some spraywork and the workers had setup there whole base of operations in my little yard.

I've literally taken the Silvia out, setup my supplies, and just sat there staring at the stuff. then put it all back away. multiple times. Its my personal life I suppose, I'm pretty worried that I cannot relax anymore. I'd like to hear what some of you guys do to relax besides modeling and what you do to maintain focus when you seem to have lost it?

well, either way.. at this point the custom S14 is practically finished. For those of you that want to see it, I will update the thread next week wether the model is 100% complete or not. I should be able to finish it w/ one focused day of work. as is Im in the 90% completion range.

besides modeling whats relaxing?

Snow Skiing, making fun of Chevy Luminas on cardomain, and spending time with my gf, tho some you would probably say gfs cause more stress than relaxation :evillol: :nono: :banghead:

I think we all go thru those slumps, after a while u will wnat to build agian.

One reason why i build so slow is because I'm constantly taking little breaks. I never force myself to build when im not in the mood. If I do, it just feels like a chore and its not fun anymore. So, my advice for you is to wait it out. The slump will pass eventually. Untill then, if you find yourself needing to relax- Take a nap if you've got the time. Even if you're not tired, lay there and close your eyes. Even if you dont fall asleep it still helps. Another thing i do to relax is to sit somewhere and look at some "The Far Side" comic books by Gary Larson. I cant get enough of his cartoons.

I have the same problem from time to time and one good thing to do if you for instance got the AMS (Advanced Modeler Syndrome) or lacks the will to build for some other reason, is to get a really simple kit. Build it box stock just for the loving fun of it. It's a great way to get back into it, and hey....if it doesn't feel right it ain't. Leave it for a while, you'll eventually find your way back and discover again why you used to like building models. Let the workers finish your roof and get back on track as soon as everything has settled down again. For relaxing I don't know what to do at this particular moment as I have two little boys, one 3-years old and the other one is 6 months old. So I really have a full agenda no matter what :grinno:

i love to build the group c car's,racing nsx's or
the c5 vetts. but i have not finished one of them
i work on bits of each car for 5 or 10 min at a
time. this way it takes longer to finish them
it's a little more relaxing to me. all you guy's
that pour all your time into one super car
all seem to get feed up with modeling at one point
me i have so meny diffrent things to do that i
cant get bored, and if i do i just stop for a day
or two till it passes

I cant sit down for ouhurs and just build. i do not why... but i think it is because i am painting my parts and it goes so slow... but besides the models i get out on my trials street bike and jump orund and smell the clena air up here.. or i travel to our cabin and goes on wakeboard that is realy relaxing. and another thing i do to relax is scuba diving. that is pretty cool go down under the wather and just breth in and out and watch the nature in water;)

And some times if i cant relax with models i go down to town and listens on some v8 engines and then i get totaly relaxed:) it is some thing with v8 engines that calms me down;)

each of your posts all had some very good points, thanks for replying. I know it'll pass, and proosen I love building models, Its right for me, thats why its wierd that I can't jump in head first everytime.

I guess In one respect I was lookin to see what everyone here does to relax.. since relaxation sometimes falls by the wayside when life gets in the way. And for me that really takes its toll on my modeling time.

it is some thing with v8 engines that calms me down

i play pool. it really relaxes me. when im playin, nothin else matters. just the friendships that have been built through me playin the game. and makin that next shot. everything else goes away. it is a great way to just get away from everything. but different strokes for different folks right

another remixed faf quote but for me it is extremley hard to relax because i have a little bro and we dont get along at all, and i have like 10 models started but none finished (i think i finished like 2 in 2003-04) and i have ADHD so that makes it even harder to concentrate.but when i try to relax i just go on af and like get ideas and talk to people.

Sit down listen to music and stare at the ceiling talking on the phone. Thats all I do when I want to relax. Sometimes I draw

relax, whats relax!?!?!.......all i do is chill out in my room, all the lights out in the dark with my stereo cranked and let the bass take the stress away. either that or go driving, but even then that can make you more stressed....you'll get through the slump man. it just takes time

Doing work and school at the same time now, and working on my car, I just don't have much time for it anymore. I'm so close to finishing a few too. If I want to relax and think, I go out for a drive in my Fiero :) Today I figured out how to do a 180! :D But tomorrow I'm taking the car in to get the exhaust looked at, I think it needs a new catalytic converter. Hopefully I'll get the Trueno primered too.

I rip my KONA Stinky Dee-Lux Mountain Bike off the wall and go play on some wild downhill slope in the mountains. I'm not sure what I do to relax though?

I go through stages when I can't get motivated to work on a model. I usually just put the kit I'm working on away and build a box stock model to keep things simple.

I work on my R/C trucks. I seem to able to work on them more than I can their 1/24th counterparts. IN all actuality, I'm considering leaving this hobby altogether and sticking to R/C. If I do that, there will be many models for sale here. I have about 20 that are unbuilt.

Modelling is ment to be relaxing???????
I must be doing something wrong - it stresses me when I lose those tiny parts, get dust in the paint, sand through the skin on my fingers, etc
