i just got my cavalier totalled yesterday. i'm leaning toward a 2001 mitsubishi eclipse spider. I wondering if there's anything i should know or look for on it. any major problems with the eclipse line? the car has 19k on it w/ an automatic 6 cylinder. the dealer is asking for $18k (not firm). what price would be a good buy? any info would be appriciated. thanks.

also, i'd rather have the 5-speed but the dealer said that the type of manual (sportonic or something like that) is better than the standard. i'm sure it's a sales pitch but was curious what the differences in hp are and what pro/cons they have. thanks

2001 eclipse spyder for 18 gran? :D id say try and get it for 17 gran or less.

anyway, i think u should take it becuz the sportronic offers both the ease and "chill-faction" of an automatic and uh..some "excitement" for when you want to shift by yourself. if you're a hardcore racer though, then you should try looking for a manual, but I think going with the sportronic is a really good idea

I would say get the manual, as I always prefer manuals. It puts you more in direct control of the car.

If you want the car, I would talk him down to 15K. The car is 3 years old, will be past it's warranty in 6 months, and may have problems that you do not know aboout.

15k tops..And get an extended warranty..just because...The 3G is reliable,But anything can happen..also go with the manual if possible....but if u want less troubles go with the Sporty..I heard sporties are fun..but i have a manual so I dont know..a test drive may b in the Future..lol

Just as a reference I've been trying to sell my "01 GT for a while. I cant even get an offer over $10000. Look for someone who is selling one you can get a much better deal then from a dealership.
Even though I know how hard it is to find a loan and such. I would really recommened not buying from a dealership if at all possible. Just a suggestion. Take it for what its worth.

any chance yours is a spider skinut? i might be interested. so i should only take the dealership one if i can get it for $15k or less. it has all the accessories like 17'' rims and leather. i think it would be a good buy for $15, hopefully it's not a mistake. where i'm from spiders are not that common let alone a gt version. i've went to about 15 dealerships and only found 2 other eclipses that weren't even convertibles. i've heard nothing but good for the spontronic trannys. (other than a spit second longer shift that stardard) it would be nice to have the ease of an auto yet the ability to control it when wanted. i presume there is not really a difference is hp. thanks for all your input.

It is a 5-sp and its only a GT not the spyder. Sorry man. Plus now that I'm out of College I'm keeping it. While I was in school and almost got it repoed, that was why I was trying to sell it.

At least you won't have the throw out bearing rattle issue that a lot of 3G manual owners have.

first off, the sportronic is a sales pitch there is almost a second in difference b/t most 5-speed eclipses and the sportronics in the 1/4 mile, i found a 01 eclipse GT spyder for 10,500 and i think it was sportronic too, not sure on the miles...so i don't kno how good of a deal your getting and i got my car brand new for 18k, so look around a little bit more
